Viliv X7 and X10 Android tablets, X70 Win7 tablet, get official

Viliv has outed its range of three new tablets at CES 2011 this week, as promised, the Viliv X7 Android Tablet, Viliv X10 Android Tablet, and the Viliv X70 Windows 7 Slate. Each Android tablet is powered by a 1GHz Samsung Cortex-A8 processor with Power VR SGX 540 GPU and 512MB of memory, the X7 having a 7-inch, 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen while the X10 has a 10.2-inch 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen. Meanwhile, the X70 Windows 7 slate runs an unspecified “next-gen” Intel CPU with a 7-inch 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen.

Both Android models have WiFi b/g/n, optional 3G HSPA or WiMAX or EVDO wireless conenctivity, Bluetooth and GPS, along with a rear 3-megapixel camera and a front 1.3-megapixel camera for video calls. There’s also HDMI, microUSB and a microSD card slot to augment the 8GB, 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage. Sensors include an accelerometer, ambient light, and digital compass. The X7 has a 5,600 mAh battery, good Viliv says for up to 9.5hrs runtime, while the X10 has an 8,300 mAh battery, good for over 10hrs

As for the Windows 7 based Viliv X70, that has 1GB or 2GB of RAM, a choice of 32GB or 64GB SSD and either the Starter or Home Premium versions of Microsoft’s OS. There’s WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth, optional HSPA/WiMAX/EVDO and GPS, together with the same cameras as the Android slates. Ports include HDMI, microUSB and microSD, and the 5,600 mAh battery is good for up to 6.5hrs. Impressively, it weighs a mere 420g and is just 14.3mm thick.

The Viliv X7 Android tablet and Viliv X10 Android tablet will go on sale in March and April 2011 respectively. No word on availability for the Viliv X70 Windows 7 Slate, nor pricing for any of the three. Viliv say the Android version is also undecided, and could be either 2.2 Froyo or Honeycomb; however, if rumors of Honeycomb being restricted to dual-core processors are true, that could force Viliv’s hand in the wrong direction.

Back To Stock: Get The Official Android 4.1.2 Update For Samsung Note Gt

  WARNING!

Warranty may be void of your device if you follow the procedures given on this page.

You only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE GT-N7000 OFFICIAL JELLY BEAN 4.1.2 FIRMWARE

Before you begin with guide instructions below, make sure your android device is adequately charged — at least 50% battery of the device.

STEP 0: CHECK DEVICE MODEL NO.

To make sure your device is eligible with this, you must first confirm its model no. in ‘About device’ option under Settings. Another way to confirm model no. is by looking for it on the packaging box of your device. It must be GT-N7000!

Do not use the procedures discussed here on any other Galaxy Note (including the Galaxy Note variant at T-Mobile, AT&T and other International variants) or any other device of Samsung or any other company. You have been warned!

  STEP 1: BACKUP YOUR DEVICE

Back up important data and stuff before you start playing around here as there are chances you might lose your apps and app-data (app settings, game progress, etc.), and in rare case, files on the internal memory, too.

For help on Backup and Restore, check out our exclusive page on that linked right below.

► ANDROID BACK UP AND RESTORE GUIDE: APPS AND TIPS

  STEP 2: INSTALL LATEST DRIVER

You must have proper and working driver installed on your windows computer to be able to successfully flash stock firmware on your Samsung Galaxy Note. In case you’re not sure, follow the link below for a definitive guide for installing driver for your Galaxy Note on your computer.

► SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE DRIVERS INSTALLATION GUIDE

   STEP 3: INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS   DOWNLOADS

Download the Odin zip file and firmware file given below. Transfer both Odin and firmware file to a separate folder on your computer just to keep things tidy.

ODIN ZIP FILE   FIRMWARE ZIP FILE   STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Important Note: Backup important files stored on internal SD card of your device, so that in case a situation arises requiring you to do a factory reset after flashing stock firmware, which might delete internal sd card too, your files will remain safe on PC.

Extract/Unzip the Odin zip file, Latest Odin3 v3.09.zip on your computer (using 7-zip free software, preferably) to get this file: Odin3 v3.09.exe

Extract/Unzip the Firmware zip file, N7000DDLSC_N7000ODDLSC_INU.zip on your computer (using 7-zip free software, preferably) to get this file: N7000DDLSC_N7000ODDLSC_N7000DLS6_HOME.tar.md5

Move the firmware file, N7000DDLSC_N7000ODDLSC_N7000DLS6_HOME.tar.md5, in the same folder in which you extracted Latest Odin3 v3.09.zip (Just for your convenience, that is). So, now you’ll have the following files in that folder:

Odin3 v3.09.exe

N7000DDLSC_N7000ODDLSC_N7000DLS6_HOME.tar.md5

Disconnect the Galaxy Note from PC if it is connected.

Boot your Samsung Galaxy Note into Download Mode:

Power off your phone first and wait for 6-7 seconds after display is off

Press and hold these 3 buttons together until you see Warning! screen: Volume Down + Power + Home

If you don’t get the Added! message, here are some troubleshooting tips:

Make sure you have installed driver for Galaxy Note as said above in ‘Before you begin..’ section.

If you have already installed driver, then uninstall them and re-install back.

Connect using a different USB port on your PC.

Try a different USB cable. The original cable that came with your phone should work best, if not, try any other cable that’s new and of good quality.

Reboot phone and PC and then try again.

Load the firmware file (extracted in Step 1) into Odin as instructed below:

Now in the Option section of Odin, make sure that Re-Partition box is unchecked. (Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time boxes remain checked, while all other boxes remain unchecked.)

Double check the above two steps.

If you see FAIL message instead of the PASS in Odin’s top left box, that’s a problem. Try this now: disconnect your Galaxy Note from PC, close Odin, remove phone’s battery and put it back inside in 3-4 seconds, open Odin and then repeat from Step 3 of this guide again.

Also, If device is Stuck at setup connection or on any other process, then too, try this: disconnect your Note from PC, close Odin, remove phone’s battery and put it back inside in 3-4 seconds, open Odin and then repeat from Step 3 of this guide again.

Your suggestions and queries, if any, are most welcomed!

Android 4.4 Kitkat Official – Here’s What You Need To Know

Project Svelte

First and foremost, Android 4.4 KitKat will offer something that its predecessors did not bring to the table, and that’s support for older devices that were left running dated Android versions.

In other words, Project Svelte is joining Project Butter:

Design

Features

Besides improving the overall Android experience available in Jelly Bean, Google has added some interesting new features to KitKat, which users may certainly appreciate.

Always-on Google Now and Google Search

Smarter calling

In KitKat, the phone app will automatically prioritize contacts based on the people you talk to the most and will let you search for “nearby places and businesses, your contacts, or people in your Google Apps domain.”

The caller ID is also smarter, as it will try to match a call from a phone number that’s not saved in your contacts with business and add a Google Maps listing for them.

Hangouts and the default SMS app

You already know by now that Hangouts has received SMS integration, but users won’t be forced to use Hangouts as their default SMS application.

The concept of default SMS application comes with Android 4.4 KitKat, something Google revealed not so long ago.

A new NFC

NFC has also been tweaked in KitKat, as Google is not yet ready to give up on its NFC vision. Even though it encountered some stiff resistance and/or competition from carriers, Google is ready to move past their needs by letting developers offer NFC features to interested buyers without requiring access to the secure element on SIM cards, which is controlled by mobile operators.

KitKat uses Host Card Emulation (HCE) to offer NFC “payments, loyalty programs, card access, transit passes and other custom transactions,” without actually requiring a secure element present.

Printing

KitKat and the TV

KitKat brings a variety of tools that should help with entertainment-related chores:

Resolution switching through adaptive playback will let apps seamlessly change resolution during video playback

Support for Common Encryption (CENC) – “a standard, multiplatform DRM scheme for managing protective content.”

Audio Tunneling to DSP – audio decoding and output is moved to a digital signal processor (DSP) in order to conserve battery power in such cases when the screen is not turned on but music is playing.

Audio monitoring – apps get new tools that let them “monitor any currently playing audio on the device”

Loudness enhancer – media apps can increase the loudness of spoken content

Wi-Fi Certified Miracast

System-wide settings for closed captioning

Music and movie seeking from lock screen – by long pressing the play button, you’ll be able to move to a certain part of a song or video directly from the lock screen

More Bluetooth profiles

After finally rolling out Bluetooth 4.0 LE support with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, Google seems determined to take Bluetooth support one step further by letting Android apps interact with more Bluetooth-enabled devices.

KitKat will offer support for more Bluetooth profiles including Bluetooth HID over GATT (“gives apps a low-latency with low-power peripheral devices such as mice, joysticks and keyboards”), Bluetooth MAP (“exchange messages with a nearby device”) and an extension to Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3 (which will let users “set absolute volume on the system from their Bluetooth devices”).

Screen recorder

A new screen recorder app will let users record videos of the apps they’re using in order to create “walkthroughs, tutorial, marketing videos and more.”

Step Detector and Step Counter

Security features

Security has also been enhanced in Android 4.4, as app sandboxes “have been hardened with Security-Enhanced Linux,” and support has been added for two more cryptographic algorithms.

Wrap up

Official Jelly Bean Android 4.1.1 Ota Jro03C For Galaxy Nexus Us Hspa+ Variant

Google has started the official rollout of the Jelly Bean Android 4.1.1 update (build number JRO03C) for Galaxy Nexus devices – starting with the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus variant in the US (the GSM variant sold directly by Google in the US – just a day after releasing the source for Jelly Bean.

However, the OTA update is rolled out gradually to more and more devices, so in case you don’t want to wait for your device to get it, you can manually update to the OTA release by using the guide below.

—- Important! Read the points below —

The manual method of updating needs you to have a device with an unlocked bootloader and ClockworkMod recovery installed. If you have a fully stock and unlocked Galaxy Nexus, you should wait for the OTA update from Google officially.

You need to be on either the IMM76I Android 4.0.4 build or the preview JRN84D Jelly Bean build in order to update manually as this is an incremental ROM. There are two different files for updating from either version, so make sure to select the correct version depending on your current build.

This guide and ROM is for the unlocked GSM variant of the Galaxy Nexus in the US and won’t work for the international variants or the Verizon/Sprint variants.

— Important! Read points above —

Now, let’s take a look at how you can manually update your GSM Galaxy Nexus (US variant) to the official OTA Jelly Bean release.

Compatibility

This ROM and the guide below are compatible only and only with the US GSM Galaxy Nexus. It’s not compatible with the international or Sprint/Verizon variants or any other device. Check your device model in Settings » About phone.

Warning!

The methods and procedures discussed here are considered risky and you should not attempt anything if you don’t know completely what it is. If any damage occurs to your device, we won’t be held liable.

How to Install Official Jelly Bean ROM on US GSM Galaxy Nexus Variant

[Important] Make sure your device has an unlocked bootloader and ClockworkMod recovery installed.

Now, on your phone, go into Settings » About phone, and check what it says under Build number on the bottom. It must be either IMM76I or JRN84D. Then, download the corresponding file below in order to update.

If build number is IMM76I:  Download Link

If build number is JRN84D:  Download Link

Copy the downloaded zip file to the SD card on the phone (do not extract it).

Turn off the phone and boot into ClockworkMod recovery. To do this, press and hold the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons together till the screen turns on. Then, scroll to the Recovery mode option using the volume buttons, then select it using the Power button to restart in recovery.

Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard, then select the file transferred to the SD card in step 3. Confirm installation on the next screen by selecting Yes.

After installation is complete, select go back then select reboot system now to reboot the phone and boot up into the official Jelly Bean Android 4.1.1

Congratulations! You have successfully updated to the official Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean OTA release on your Galaxy Nexus. Enjoy!

2024 Bmw X5 M50I And X7 M50I Give Suvs A 530Hp Twin

2024 BMW X5 M50i and X7 M50i give SUVs a 530hp twin-turbo V8

Your SUV needs more power, and BMW wants to give it too you. The latest chess move in the German automaker’s strategy of M-all-the-things, the 2023 BMW X5 M50i and X7 M50i answer the age-old question of “why doesn’t my luxury truck do 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds like the new Toyota Supra?”

To make sure you’re never embarrassed in a straight line dash at the lights by a Japanese sports car, BMW slots the new version of the N63 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 under the hood of its M50i variants. In the 2023 X5 M50i it grants that 4.1 second time; the larger, heavier 2023 X7 M50i follows on shortly after, at 4.5 seconds.

Considering just how big these SUVs are, no small amount of power is required from the V8. 530 horsepower arrives between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm, while the peak 553 lb-ft of torque drops from just 1,800 rpm. That’s 67 hp and 74 lb-ft more than the regular xDrive50i versions of each.

Off the lot, and on all-season tires, top speed is an electronically-limited 130 mph. Opt for summer performance rubber, meanwhile, and that rises to 155 mph. BMW has paired the V8 with an eight-speed Sport Steptronic transmission, with new shift programing and steering wheel paddles. There’s Launch Control for getting away without delay from the school drop-off, and if you spec the Active Cruise Control system the transmission will preemptively shift according to the trajectory of the upcoming road.

Going around corners is just as important, of course, and so there’s xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive with an electronically controlled rear M Sport differential. The 2023 X5 M50i and X7 M50i are rear-biased in normal driving, indeed the SUVs can push all of the power to the back wheels if needed. Meanwhile, the differential can push power left to right at the rear, depending on traction conditions.

Double-wishbone front and five-link rear suspension has been fettled by the M team, with the X5 M50i combining it with Adaptive M Suspension. The X7 M50i goes for two-axle air suspension as standard; it’s an option on the smaller SUV. The air suspension allows for almost an inch lower ride height in Sport mode, or at speeds above 85 mph; alternately, it can be lifted up to 1.6-inches for better clearance.

M Sport Brakes get two-piece, lightweight compound brake disks. The 2023 X5 M50i combines them with 20-inch M Star-spoke light alloy wheels with 275/45R20 run-flat all-season tires as standard; you can have up to 22-inch wheels if you’d prefer. The 2023 X7 M50i goes for 22-inch cerium grey M V-spoke wheels as standard, though you can get smaller 21-inch versions if you’d prefer.

Inside, there’s BMW’s Live Cockpit Professional and a Harman Kardon Surround Sound system. Apple CarPlay is supported, and there’s wireless charging, multi-contour sports seats, and WiFi hotspot. Options include glass controls and a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Audio System, together with driver assistance features like the Dynamic Handling Package, 3D parking assistance, and adaptive cruise.

Production of the two feistier SUVs is set to kick off in August of this year. They’ll join the BMW line-up in US dealerships come the fall. Pricing starts at $82,150 (plus $995 destination) for the 2023 X5 M50i, and at $99,600 (plus $995 destination) for the 2023 X7 M50i.

How To Get Firewall Access On Android Without Root

Scenarios Where Firewall Access Proves Helpful

Suppose you would like to disable Facebook and WhatsApp’s internet access while you are on roaming, but at the same time, apps like Maps and Uber should be able to connect to the internet, it can be done through a firewall app.

There are many apps which connect in the background and eats up your Wi-Fi or cellular data. A firewall app can disable background internet access to such apps.

Using a firewall app you can choose to connect an app only using the Wi-Fi data and restrict data while you are on the cellular network.

How to Get Firewall Access on Android

Now that we know how important firewall access can be on an Android device, let’s have a look at two of the best apps you can install on your Android to get the feature.

NetGuard – no-root firewall

NetGuard – no-root firewall is the first app that you should install on your device to get firewall access. When you open the app and enable it, you will be asked to grant access to a VPN connection that would be created by NetGuard. It’s mandatory that you tap ok and complete the process to get a working firewall on your device.

Note: VPN connection created by these apps are virtual and the data is not transmitted to any external servers. These VPN connections are created by apps so that they can block traffic for particular apps thus fulfilling the basic feature of a firewall app.

In NetGuard, you will see a list of all the apps that are installed on your device along with a Wi-Fi and cellular data icon next to it. Now, to disable internet access for any apps over Wi-Fi or cellular network, you will have to just tap and disable the particular protocol. You can also disable background data for an app by allowing traffic only when the screen in on.

Download NetGuard – no-root firewall

NoRoot Firewall

NoRoot Firewall is yet another app that you can install on your android to get the firewall feature. This app will also establish a virtual VPN connection.

Note: An Android device can only support one VPN connection at a time, you must not install and activate more than one firewall app on the same device.

NoRoot Firewall gives more insight and control over the internet when compared to NetGuard and at the same time, is less complicated to work on. The logs are easy to read and Global Filters make more sense. You can also choose to auto start the app on boot which will make sure you are protected all the time.

Download NoRoot Firewall

If Only There was No VPN

These apps need a virtual VPN connection to function and that’s the only limitation one can face. An Android can have only one active VPN connection and therefore, if you are in an organization that needs you to connect through VPN, you will not be able to use these firewall apps. Additionally, these would not be compatible with apps like Opera Max, AdAway and other such apps which need virtual VPN to function.
