How To Track A Lost Or Stolen Iphone Or Ipad With Find My Iphone
This tutorial will show you how you can track your lost or stolen iPhone or iPad using Apple’s Find My service, play an alarm-like sound on it, see how far the lost device is, and get directions to it to hopefully recover your missing device.
In a previous post, we had a look at the first step in securing your iPhone or iPad by enabling Find My iPhone, a feature that lets you track, lock, and even remotely wipe the device in case it has been lost or stolen. Now that you have the feature turned on, we’re going to show you how to use Find My to track an iPhone or iPad that has been lost, stolen, or misplaced.
Tracking an iOS device with Find My iPhone requires that you either have the Find My app installed on another device (it could be your iPad, another iPhone, Mac, or someone else’s iPhone or iPad) or that you use Find My directly from chúng tôi Both methods work equally well, and the steps to track a device are pretty much identical regardless of what you use.
How to track an iPhone or iPad with Find My1) Open Apple’s Find My app on your other iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.
Tip: The app doesn’t have to be installed on your own device. For example, you could use a friend’s iPhone or iPad to track your lost iPhone or iPad. As mentioned above, you can also log in to chúng tôi from any computer and use Find My there.
You may not be asked to log in to the Find My app on your devices. But if you’re using your family member’s or friend’s iPhone, make sure to log in using your Apple ID that’s on your lost device.
2) Tap Devices in the Find My app, and it will display a split screen with a map at the top and a list of devices that are linked to your Apple ID at the bottom. Tap the device that has been lost or stolen to locate it. I’m selecting my iPad.
You will see the current location of the device under your iPhone or iPad’s name.
3) Play a sound on a lost device: Once located, tap Play Sound. This is great if you lost your phone around the house and it is on mute. Even if the device is on mute, it will play a sound so you can locate it if it’s nearby. If the device is stolen, playing the sound may deter the petty thief.
4) Get directions to a lost device: If your device is not nearby, you can get directions to its location. The Directions tile shows how far your lost iPhone is and how much time it will take you to get there. Once you tap the Directions button, it will open Apple Maps and give you driving directions to the device. Tap GO to start the navigation.
Note that if you believe your device was stolen (not just lost), we highly recommend putting it in Lost Mode.
Related tips:
Using the Find My app offers a handy way to get directions to the misplaced device. However, if you don’t have another iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, nor can you get one from a friend or family member, you can open chúng tôi in a computer web browser to know the whereabouts of your lost device.
1) Go to chúng tôi in a web browser on your computer and log in using your Apple ID. It should be the one that’s on your lost iPhone or iPad.
How To Erase Your Mac Remotely Using Find My Or Non
Our devices contain a lot of personal and sensitive information. This makes it crucial to delete all its contents before giving your Mac away or selling it. But what if your Mac gets stolen or isn’t with you?
Need to erase data from your Mac ASAP? Let’s get on with it! Apple allows you to erase your Mac remotely with an iPhone, iPad, or another Mac using Find My. You can also access and remotely wipe the Mac from non-Apple devices via iCloud.
What happens when you wipe out a Mac?
Here’s what will happen if you erase your Mac remotely using another device:
It removes all the information in it, including all the apps you installed and all user accounts and their data.
It signs you out of all Apple services.
It disables Apple Pay and removes all your debit and credit card information from your device.
You’ll receive a confirmation email on your Apple ID address.
Activation Lock remains turned on to protect your device if you don’t remove your device from Find My. Removing the device from Find My turns of Activation Lock.
You can only wipe out your Mac remotely if you have previously set Find My on your Mac.
Consider setting up File Vault on your Mac to encrypt your information. This prevents unauthorized access to your Mac if it gets lost or reaches the hands of unauthorized people.
Note: If you can track your device and retrieving it is possible, you may want to lock your Mac instead of wiping it out. This prevents others from logging in. You can also display a recovery message and play a sound to let you track where it is or alert people nearby.
How to wipe your Mac remotely using Find My app
From an iPhone or iPadYou can remotely erase your MacBook using your iPhone or iPad. However, your iPhone or iPad should be connected to the same iCloud account as your Mac to be able to perform the remote erase. To do so:
Note: If the device is with you and you plan to sell it or give it away, you should reset your Mac using Disk Utility instead so that you can disable the Activation Lock. You can also remove the Activation Lock by removing your Mac from Find My. If you want to learn more, check our list of things to do before selling your Mac.
You can also use Find My on another Mac to remotely erase all the data on your Mac. However, the other Mac must also be tied to your iCloud account.
From another Mac
Remotely erase a MacBook from non-Apple devices via iCloud
If you don’t have an Apple device handy or your other Apple devices aren’t nearby, or you simply don’t own another iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Mac, you can still erase your Mac remotely using iCloud in a web browser.
How to undo an erase request using Find My
If you erased your device remotely and found it just in time while your Mac was offline, you can still cancel the erase request and prevent your Mac from getting wiped out.
Wrapping up…
Nothing is more frustrating than losing a personal device. But it is more important to ensure that losing it doesn’t cause further harm. Erasing your Mac remotely can help prevent further losses in terms of unwanted access and data theft.
Have you tried erasing your device in the past? Which method did you use? Share it down below!

12 Fixes For When Your Airpods Don’t Show Up In The Find My App
Do you have trouble getting your AirPods to show up in the Find My app on the iPhone or Mac? Or do they appear as “Offline” or fail to relay an accurate location?
Technical limitations, incorrectly configured settings, outdated firmware, and many other reasons can result in your AirPods not showing up in the Find My app.
Table of Contents
If you’ve already lost your AirPods, you only have a limited amount of options to get them to show up in the Find My app. Most of the troubleshooting and fixes below will focus on those.
But if you want to improve the odds of retrieving Apple’s wireless earbuds the next time you misplace them, you might want to keep reading until the end.
Technical Limitations of AirPods and Find My
The first and second-generation AirPods will only relay their location if they’re actively connected to another Apple device you own. If not, you will only see where you last used them.
AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and third-generation AirPods will transmit their current location via the Find My network using any iPhone, iPad, or Mac in the vicinity. However, the feature requires firmware version 4A400 (more about this below).
If your AirPods haven’t been connected to a device for over 24 hours, Find My will display them as “Offline” or “No Location Found.”
Your AirPods will not relay the location if they’ve run out of battery life. That will also cause them to appear as “Offline” or “No Location Found” in Find My.
1. Quit & Reopen Find My AppIf Find My has trouble acquiring the location of your AirPods, you may want to try refreshing the map.
On the Mac, just exit and relaunch the app via the Dock. But on the iPhone and iPad, you must first swipe up from the bottom of the screen to invoke the App Switcher. Then, swipe away the Find My card to force-quit the app. Follow that by relaunching Find My via the Home Screen.
2. Restart iPhone or MacNext up, try restarting your iPhone or Mac. That usually takes care of any connectivity issues preventing Find My from showing your AirPods.
3. Check the Find My Server StatusIf your AirPods are still not showing up in Find My, you must confirm that the issue is not the result of a server-side outage.
Just visit Apple’s System Status page and ensure that Find My (including related services such as Apple ID and iCloud Account & Sign in) is up and running. If not, you must wait it out until Apple gets its servers back online.
4. Remove AirPods You No Longer UseDo you see a pair of AirPods that you no longer use listed on Find My? Removing them might get your current AirPods to show up.
Find My is also available in web app form. If the issue persists, use it and see if that makes a difference.
Just sign in to chúng tôi using your Apple ID on any desktop or mobile device (including Android or Windows), select Find iPhone on the iCloud Launchpad, and select your AirPods from the All Devices list at the top of the screen.
6. Put One AirPod InsideIf you manage to locate one AirPod, make sure to put it inside the Charging Case. If not, you won’t see the location of the other AirPod.
7. Activate Find My AirPodsIf your iPhone or Mac doesn’t have Find My iPhone/Mac active, that will also result in your AirPods not showing up unless you enable the functionality. Unfortunately, this fix will not work if you’ve already lost your AirPods.
Activate Find My iPhone1. Open the Settings app.
2. Turn on the switch next to Find My iPhone.
Activate Find My Mac1. Open the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
2. Select Apple ID.
3. Under the iCloud side tab, check the box next to Find My Mac.
8. Update AirPods FirmwareUpdating the firmware on your AirPods can resolve known issues and improve connectivity. For example, only an iPhone, iPad, or Mac that you own can actively relay the location of your AirPods. But if you use the AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, or the third-generation AirPods, updating to firmware version 4A400 will allow any iPhone, iPad, or Mac to transmit their location courtesy of the Find My network.
Regardless of the reason, it’s always a good idea to update the AirPods firmware. For step-by-step instructions about the procedure, see our guide to updating the AirPods firmware. But here are the steps in brief:
1. Put your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max inside the Charging Case or Smart Case.
2. Connect the case to its charger.
3. Keep them close to your iPhone.
4. Connect your iPhone to a Wi-Fi network.
5. Wait for 30 minutes. Your AirPods should’ve been updated in the meantime.
9. Include AirPods in Find My NetworkIf you use the AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max with firmware 4A400 or later, it’s a good idea to double-check that they are included within the Find My network. You can do that by using your iPhone.
1. Connect the AirPods to your iPhone.
2. Open the Settings app.
3. Tap Bluetooth and select the Info icon next to your AirPods.
4. Scroll down and turn on the switch next to Find My network.
10. Update the System SoftwareRunning a dated version of the system software version—such as iOS 10 or macOS Sierra—can also result in all sorts of issues in Find My. So, try applying any pending updates.
Update System Software on iPhone Update System Software on MacOpen the System Preferences app and go to Software Update. Then, select Update Now to update your macOS device.
11. Unpair and Reconnect AirPodsNext up, try un-pairing and reconnecting your Apple AirPods to your iPhone or Mac. You can do that via the Bluetooth settings on your iOS or macOS device.
Remove and Reconnect AirPods on iPhone1. Put your AirPods inside the Charging Case or Smart Case.
2. Go to Settings and select Bluetooth.
3. Tap the Info icon next to your AirPods.
4. Tap Forget This Device. Then, tap Forget Device again to confirm.
5. Open the AirPods case or take your AirPods Max out of its Smart Case. Then, follow the onscreen instructions to enter pairing mode and reconnect the AirPods with your iPhone.
Remove and Reconnect AirPods on Mac1. Put your AirPods inside the Charging Case or Smart Case.
2. Open the System Preferences app and select the Bluetooth icon. Or, open the Bluetooth menu bar icon and choose Bluetooth Preferences.
3. Select the X-button next to your AirPods.
4. Select Remove.
5. Open the AirPods case or take your AirPods Max out of its Smart Case. Then, select Connect to pair the AirPods with your Mac again.
12. Reset AirPods to Factory DefaultsYour next course of action involves resetting your AirPods. That will eliminate any corrupt configurations preventing your AirPods from showing up within Find My.
1. Put your AirPods inside the Charging Case or Smart Case.
2. Remove your AirPods from the list of Bluetooth devices on the iPhone (instructions above).
3. Press and hold the Setup button or the Digital Crown and Noise Control buttons until the status light flashes amber, then white.
4. Open the Charging Case or take your AirPods Max out of its Smart Case.
5. Re-pair your AirPods with your iPhone or Mac.
Note: AirPods connect to other Apple devices via iCloud, so you don’t have to go through the pairing process multiple times.
AirPods: Lost and FoundHomeland Security Using Databases That Track Millions Of Smartphone Users
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has acknowledged using databases that track millions of smartphone users, despite a court ruling intended to limit its powers to do so.
The data has reportedly been used for border and immigration enforcement, and there is some evidence to suggest that the DHS has not wanted to admit to having access to it…
The WSJ reports.
The Trump administration has bought access to a commercial database that maps the movements of millions of cellphones in America and is using it for immigration and border enforcement, according to people familiar with the matter and documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.
The location data is drawn from ordinary cellphone apps, including those for games, weather and e-commerce, for which the user has granted permission to log the phone’s location.
The Department of Homeland Security has used the information to detect undocumented immigrants and others who may be entering the U.S. unlawfully, according to these people and documents.
Although it is technically true that smartphone users grant permission for apps to access their location, they generally do so without realizing that their location data can be sold to as many as 40 different companies.
Users may also be misled by privacy policies that talk about anonymized data when the reality is that it can trivially allow individuals to be identified and personally tracked.
In most cases, ascertaining a home location and an office location was enough to identify a person. Consider your daily commute: Would any other smartphone travel directly between your house and your office every day?
One case indicates that law enforcement agencies aimed to keep secret their usage of the databases.
The data was used to detect cellphones moving through what was later discovered to be a tunnel created by drug smugglers between the U.S. and Mexico that terminated in a closed Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet on the U.S. side near San Luis, Ariz., said people with knowledge of the operation.
The data tracking contributed to the 2023 arrest of the defunct restaurant’s owner, Ivan Lopez, on conspiracy charges related to the construction of the tunnel, the people said. But police records of the incident make no mention of the use of data showing cellphones crossing the border in an unusual location, attributing the case instead to a routine traffic stop.
A court ruling in 2023 limited the powers of the US government to obtain location data from phone companies, but the WSJ suggests that purchasing it from commercial companies is being used as a way around the law.
Because location data is available through numerous commercial ad exchanges, government lawyers have approved the programs and concluded that the Carpenter ruling doesn’t apply.
“In this case, the government is a commercial purchaser like anybody else. Carpenter is not relevant,” said Paul Rosenzweig, a former DHS official who is a resident senior fellow at the R Street Institute, a conservative and libertarian think tank that promotes free markets. “The government is just buying a widget.”
The DHS acknowledged buying access to databases that track millions of smartphones but declined to state how the information is being used. WSJ sources indicate that it is used for tracking cross-border movement, as well as ‘cellphone activity in unusual places, such as remote stretches of desert.’

Add A Theme To Facebook Using My Facebook Theme
Getting startedHave you ever wanted to jazz up your Facebook profile? While the social network does not allow themes, there are many utilities that let you add a theme to Facebook. One of the better tools for doing this is My Facebook Theme.
In order to get the most out of My Facebook Theme, you actually have to install two extensions: My Facebook Theme and Facebook Theme Creator.
They are both by the same developer and work well with one another to give you the most pre-made themes, along with the ones you create yourself.
Once both are installed, you can open the extensions to either utilize a pre-made theme or create your own. There are a wide variety of pre-made themes to choose from. In other wordss, you have many options for adding a theme to Facebook.
You can open My Facebook Theme from Facebook with the handy little link added to your top toolbar.
Creating your own themesMy Facebook Theme’s biggest asset is being able to create your own theme. While this is a very simple theme maker, it can make a big impact depending on what you want to do and the time you have to be creative.
The first part of the Editor deals with the Background.
You can choose the color of the background or use an image. If you use an image, you can choose whether it scrolls or stretches across your Facebook page or how to tile it for the best fit possible. Then, you can choose the image position if you choose to center it or off-set it.
The second part of the Editor lets you change how the primary Facebook toolbar looks.
You can change its background color and link color.
The final part of the Editor lets you change the links, text and header colors of your Facebook feed and profile.
Depending on the type of changes you make and the background you use, you are given a lot of leeway in the color choices you make to get just the right match.
These changes, along with the pre-made themes you may end up using, will be utilized across all profiles and pages on Facebook.
Using pre-made themesMy Facebook Theme also utilizes pre-made themes. These come in a variety of categories from cartoons to nature to holidays and more.
You can also take a pre-made theme and make it more your own by customizing it with the “Build Your Own” option once you have installed it.
Sharing your themesAfter you create your own theme, you can save it to My Facebook Theme by linking the two via Facebook.
You can then switch in and out of themes as you see fit but still keep the creations you have worked hard on.
You can also share the theme with others through social networks and if they use the extensions, they, too, can use it to theme their Facebook.
My Facebook Theme used to be available for Firefox but is no longer supported for the browser.
ConclusionMy Facebook Theme is a great way to customize your Facebook experience, especially if you are bored of the everyday look of the social network. You can add a theme to Facebook by using pre-made themes, tinkering with them or creating your own which gives you creative control over what Facebook looks like.
