How To Fix Touch Id Not Working On Iphone, Ipad, And Mac
Touch ID is the fastest way to unlock your device, give permission to digital content store purchases, and authenticate supported third-party app logins. But no one likes it when Touch ID problems arise. So if your experience has been a little flaky, we’ll take you through the steps to fix Touch ID problems on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Once you follow these solutions, you can again get back to using Touch ID for unlocking your device, authenticating Apple Pay, downloading apps, getting inside app locks, confirming password autofill, and more.
Potential causes for Touch ID issues
Touch ID will stop working when your finger is wet or dirty. This may happen while exercising, cooking, changing your oil, doing outside work, and other similar activities. Likewise, cuts, lotions, oils, sweat, and even dry skin can affect the accuracy of reading your fingerprint. So before you take any drastic measures, you should check for these issues.
When you’re sure that none of these reasons are affecting your Touch ID accuracy, then you probably have a problem, so continue reading to get to the bottom of things once and for all. But first, some basics.
Touch ID and Apple Pay
Are you trying to to use Apple Pay after authenticating with Touch ID, but it doesn’t work? If so, please go through these points:
You can use Touch ID on iPhone 6 and later for Apple Pay authentication in physical stores, within apps, and on supported websites in Safari.
You can use Touch ID for Apple Pay authentication on iPad Air 2 or later, iPad 5th generation or later, iPad mini 3 or later, and all models of iPad Pro within apps and on supported websites in Safari.
You can use Touch ID on MacBook or Magic Keyboard with Touch ID to make purchases via Apple Pay on supported websites inside Safari. If your Mac doesn’t have Touch ID, you can enter your password or complete the purchase using Touch ID (or Face ID) on your iPhone (and even your Apple Watch). Learn more.
Must see: Why Apple Pay gets disabled on your Mac in clamshell mode and with wireless Touch ID
When Touch ID won’t work (by design for your security)
If you restarted your device: For security, Touch ID and Face ID are disabled after you restart your iPhone or iPad. You must enter the passcode once, and then Touch ID will start working. On Mac, Touch ID won’t work the first time you restart, log in after turning on the computer, or log out as a user. To address this, enter your password manually once, and future login attempts will work via Touch ID.
You have not unlocked your iPhone, iPad, or Mac in more than 48 hours.
Your iPhone, iPad, or Mac fails to recognize the fingerprint five times in a row. In other words, if someone else or you with an unregistered finger try to use Touch ID five times, it’ll disable itself and only be fixed after you enter your password manually.
You just added a new fingerprint or deleted an existing one.
You just used Emergency SOS on your iPhone.
How to fix Touch ID problems on iPhone, iPad, and Mac
1. Clean the Touch ID sensor
Before you move further, use a soft dry microfiber cloth to wipe the Touch ID sensor, which will remove finger oils and residue.
2. Make sure your finger is dry
Let me remind you again that Touch ID won’t work with a wet finger. So, if you have moisture, sweat, or oils on your finger, wipe them off first.
3. Restart your device
Sometimes, the biggest problems can be fixed easily by simply turning off your device and turning it back on. If Touch ID fails to work due to temporary glitches, restarting should solve the inconvenience.
4. Make sure Touch ID is allowed to perform certain tasks
Even after adding your fingerprints to Touch ID, you can cripple its functionality by disabling where it can be used. Do the following to check and fix that:
Use Touch ID to unlock your Mac
Use Touch ID for Apple Pay
Use Touch ID for purchases in iTunes Store, App Store, and Apple Books
Use Touch ID for autofilling passwords
Use Touch ID for fast user switching
5. Recalibrate the Touch ID sensor
Sometimes the best thing to do is start all over and recalibrate the sensor. To do that, you’ll need to follow these simple steps:
On iPhone and iPad
Open the Settings app and go to Touch ID & Passcode. Here, enter your device password to get inside.
Tap the added fingerprint and hit Delete Fingerprint. You may delete all added fingerprints.
Next, tap Add a Fingerprint to begin re-scanning and re-adding your fingerprints. Place your finger on the Touch ID sensor in various ways – right-side-up, up-side-down, and sideways until the fingerprint icon becomes fully colored. When asked to adjust your grip, scan the edges of that finger until the fingerprint icon becomes fully colored. Note: Scan the front, the back, and the sides of that finger in ways you think you will unlock your device in situations where your grip isn’t the best.
Tap Continue when the process is complete to save your fingerprint.
Lock your device and verify that the fingerprint works. If it does, congratulations!
On MacSelect Touch ID & Password from the left sidebar.
Take the pointer over an added fingerprint and hit the tiny cross (x) button that appears.
Once that’s done, lock your Mac and try to unlock it with your Touch ID. It should work flawlessly.
6. Register a different finger
If you still can’t use Touch ID, follow the above steps again and register another fingerprint. In rare cases, it’s possible that the finger you’re trying to use may not have a bold fingerprint.
Make sure to have the latest operating system version on your device, and it should fix the Touch ID problems.
8. Reset Mac’s SMC
SMC (System Management Controller) is responsible for low-level processes on your Mac, and resetting it should fix the current issues you’re troubled with:
If you have a Mac with an Intel processor, see our guide on resetting SMC.
If your Mac has Apple silicon, connect it to power and then restart it or shut down & power it again.
Related: How to determine whether your Mac is using an Intel processor or Apple silicon
9. Reset all iPhone or iPad settings
If Touch ID fails to function even after you have followed the above solutions, go ahead and reset all its settings. Performing this action won’t delete your data but will restore all settings to the default condition, which should fix the ongoing problems related to Touch ID.
10. DFU restore your iPhone or iPad
Use DFU mode on your iPhone, which will erase everything. So, make sure you have signed in to iCloud to back up your contacts, photos, messages, etc. Additionally, you can also back up your iPhone or iPad to iCloud or computer. Once DFU restore is complete, set up your iPhone as new or restore a pre-made backup.
11. Reinstall macOS (without losing data)
When basic troubleshooting tips fail, it’s time to reinstall macOS on your Mac to fix major issues. Once it completes, Touch ID failure should be a thing of the past.
12. Get your device inspected by Apple Support
At last, if nothing above helped you, the problem is most likely hardware-related.
Please chat with Apple Support and schedule an appointment at your nearest Apple Store. They will inspect your iPhone, iPad, or Mac and give you an appropriate solution.

Deskconnect File Transfer App Updated With Share Extension, 3D Touch Support, And More
DeskConnect is a file transfer app from the makers of Workflow. It allows you to easily share files between your iPhone, iPad and Mac. DeskConnect isn’t an app that will replace a service like Dropbox or even iCloud, because it was designed solely with file transfers in mind.
We reviewed the initial version of DeskConnect back in 2013. Since then, a lot has changed — iOS has gained inter-app communication via handy share extensions, iCloud Drive has made it easier to move and manipulate files across a variety of storage solutions, and AirDrop can now easily transfer files between iOS devices and Macs.
In 2023, where does a new version of DeskConnect fit in? Does AirDrop make it redundant? Have a look at our overview for the details.
What it’s notFirst of all, let me briefly touch on what DeskConnect is not. It is not a long term storage place for your files. DeskConnect temporarily stores files on its servers in order to transfer items between devices. After 30 days, files are permanently deleted.
Unlike AirDrop, where files are transferred locally, files are transmitted via the Internet to DeskConnect’s servers for temporary storage and retrieval. With this in mind, it’s obvious that you wouldn’t want to transfer anything that’s overly sensitive.
DeskConnect 1.2The main new feature in DeckConnect’s 1.2 update is the share extension that lets you quickly share items from other apps. For example, if I’m in the Twitter app, I can share tweets with other devices using the DeskConnect share extension.
Once the app’s share extension is selected, you’ll see all of the destinations that have DeskConnect installed. Destinations can include the Mac (with the help of a companion app), another iPhone, or an iPad. You’ll need to be logged in to your free DeskConnect account on each device in order to use sharing.
DeskConnect 1.2 also brings notification actions to the mix, making it quicker to act on received files. When you receive a new shared item on your iOS device, you can quickly copy items to the clipboard directly from Notification Center. This includes banners and Lock screen notifications as well.
3D Touch makes a brief appearance with the 1.2 update. Although there’s no Quick Action shortcuts available on the Home screen app icon, you can use 3D Touch to peek and pop at the shared contents found inside of the DeskConnect app.
What can you share? You can share all sorts of things with DeskConnect. You can send text files, photos, small videos, Safari links, and more. You can even send the contents of your clipboard directly to a destination of your choice.
The DeskConnect iOS app is specifically set up to allow you to quickly send photos, websites, clipboard contents, and iCloud Drive documents. You’ll find the four shortcuts for sending the mentioned files types conveniently located at the top of the DeskConnect interface.
DeskConnect or AirDrop? Why would you choose to use DeskConnect over something like AirDrop? Isn’t this why AirDrop was created?
When AirDrop works properly, it’s great, but if my Twitter timeline suggests anything, it’s that AirDrop doesn’t always work like it should. DeskConnect doesn’t rely on finicky Bluetooth connectivity, it just needs an Internet connection. As such, and because DeskConnect utilizes temporary storage, your destination device doesn’t even have to be online at the time that you share a file with it.
DeskConnect also has the ability to send items to all registered destinations at the same time. With AirDrop, you have to select individual destinations one by one.
The bottom line is that there is room for both technologies. There will be instances where using DeskConnect will make the most sense, and there will be occasions where it makes more sense to use AirDrop.
Workflow integrationIt should be no surprise that Workflow contains a Send via DeskConnect option in its list of available actions. This feature allows you to seamlessly integrate DeskConnect and its established destinations into your workflows. You can even choose to attach specific DeskConnect destinations to your workflows, or open the firehose and send to all destinations in one fell swoop.
A Mac companionUnlike the iOS version, there is no traditional app for DeskConnect on the Mac. Instead, the service relies on a companion app that stays running in the menu bar. This companion app lacks an OS X sharing extension, and lacks the easy-to-use UI present in the iOS version.
Instead, you’ll need to drag files that you wish to share to the DeskConnect menu bar icon. To be honest, this feels a little clunky; I would prefer if the app used OS X’s native share extensions instead. Hopefully this will come in a future version.
A great updateDeskConnect 1.2 is a solid update that brings several useful new additions to the table. It also includes a brand new redesign, which makes the app’s look match its modern feature set.
You can find DeskConnect 1.2 on the App Store today for free. The Mac companion app can be downloaded from the Mac App Store. DeskConnect accounts are free as well, and can be set up via either app.

Macos Catalina: Use Apple Watch To Replace Your Password Without Touch Id
9to5Mac is brought to you by CleanMyMac X. Find hidden junk, large old folders, unused apps, and heavy memory consumers. You can also use CleanMyMac X to remove malware, unwanted pop-ups, and virus extensions.
Touch ID fingerprint recognition is replacing passwords on new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops, but what if your Mac doesn’t have a fingerprint reader? The good news is that you don’t need to spend a thousand dollars on a new computer. You can replace your password on macOS Catalina without Touch ID if you wear an Apple Watch.
How it worksStrong and unique passwords are critical to securing the data on your Mac. If your computer is lost or stolen, your password is the only thing keeping a stranger from accessing everything on your Mac including photos, email, and personal files.
Using a strong password is also important on the Apple Watch — even if it’s just a four-digit passcode. Just avoid passcodes that are easy to guess like 1234 and 0000.
Things really get interesting if you’re a Mac user and wear the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch knows that you’re wearing it if it’s unlocked and on your wrist. Your Mac can know that you’re nearby based on your Apple Watch distance.
macOS Catalina uses this information to determine that it’s you sitting in front of your Mac. With your permission, you can bypass entering your Mac password every time you log in or need to authenticate with your Mac password.
You still need your password occasionally like with Touch ID. This includes when you first turn on your Mac to log in or reboot. After you enter your Mac password once, just wearing your unlocked Apple Watch is as good as Touch ID on any Mac.
Bonus tip: you can unlock your Apple Watch automatically if you use your passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID from your iPhone. This means your fingerprint or facial recognition can be used to ultimately replace your Mac password through the Apple Watch.
New featuresApple Watch isn’t just great for unlocking your Mac after it wakes from sleep. Starting in macOS Catalina, you can use the Apple Watch to replace your Mac password without Touch ID in even more places. Apple Watch can unlock:
System Preferences to change Mac settings
Locked notes in Apple Notes
Saved passwords in Safari’s Preferences
You can also use the Apple Watch to replace your Mac password without Touch ID when installing new software.
This new feature in macOS Catalina works differently from unlocking your Mac with the Apple Watch. Logging in with the Apple Watch happens automatically so the experience feels instantaneous.
Even if your Mac has Touch ID, using the Apple Watch to replace your Mac password can be more convenient than reaching for the fingerprint reader and waiting for it to authenticate. There’s no option for Touch ID if you’re using an older MacBook or any desktop Mac like the iMac, Mac mini, or Mac Pro, but Apple Watch solves that problem.
What you needThe awesome auto-unlock feature for Mac users with the Apple Watch works on every Apple Watch. You just need software version watchOS 3 or later and a compatible Mac running macOS Sierra or later:
MacBook introduced in 2023 or later
MacBook Pro introduced in late 2013 or later
MacBook Air introduced in 2013 or later
Mac mini introduced in 2014 or later
iMac introduced in 2013 or later
iMac Pro (all models)
Mac Pro introduced in 2013 or later
No Touch ID fingerprint sensor required! Just be sure your Mac has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on, you’re using the same iCloud Apple ID on both the watch and Mac, your Apple ID uses two-factor authentication for extra security, and you’re using a passcode on your Apple Watch.
Want to use the newer features for replacing your Mac password in more places with Apple Watch? Every Apple Watch except for the first generation model (Series 1 and later) can run the watchOS 6 software version that introduces this feature.
Your Mac needs to run macOS Catalina (version 10.15 or later). These Mac computers are compatible with macOS Catalina:
MacBook (Early 2023 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer)
Mac mini (Late 2012 or newer)
iMac (Late 2012 or newer)
iMac Pro (2023)
Mac Pro (Late 2013 or newer)
Setting upReady to get started? If you have the right Apple Watch and Mac with the right software, turning on the feature to replace your Mac password without Touch ID in macOS Catalina is a quick one time process.
Check the box next to your Apple Watch under ‘Use Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac’
Be sure to remember your Mac password. You won’t have to type it in nearly as often thanks to the Apple Watch — even if your Mac doesn’t have Touch ID.
9to5Mac is brought to you by CleanMyMac X. Find hidden junk, large old folders, unused apps, and heavy memory consumers. You can also use CleanMyMac X to remove malware, unwanted pop-ups, and virus extensions. Try it for free.

Best And New Android Marshmallow Features (Advanced)
Introduction to Android Marshmallow Features
Google Android has already released its new update Android Marshmallow. The updated Android Marshmallow operating system version was first released with Nexus devices. Other brands like Samsung, Sony, Motorola, and LG will slowly follow it. Android Marshmallow is not something extraordinary that you may be thinking by now, rather, it is a refined version of Android Lollipop. The Android Marshmallow version is creative because of several android marshmallow features, such as the animations you can notice during transitions from one page to another or one application to another.

Designing of Android MarshmallowThough the new Android Marshmallow version is similar in looks to its earlier version Lollipop in many ways, such as settings, navigation, notifications, and others, there are many other differences that you can notice.
Like Lollipop, Android Marshmallow also has notification and application shortcuts at the bottom of the lock screen. The only difference is that a Google voice search replaces the dialer shortcut. The voice search will be important in the updated Android Marshmallow version as it provides a new look.
Four dots of different colors are seen in other patterns while you put the command, while it is processing your order, and again while you are getting the results. Also, through voice commands, you can even launch applications on your screen now. The updated version of Android was announced on 28th May 2023, but it was finally released with Nexus on 29th September 2023. Thus, Nexus 5X and 6P were the first Android marshmallow devices to run on Android.
You can launch your applications through voice commands or application icons. Also, now you can search the application drawer directly by holding the icon for some time.
The application drawer now has been offered a vertical list that was earlier in the form of a horizontal one. Also, you will get a scrub bar available to the right that helps you search for the application alphabet-wise. Also, the application you use will usually come on the top of the drawer for your convenience.
Now, when dragging a particular application from the drawer to the android marshmallow home screen, you will also get an option to uninstall the application at the top.
You will notice a two-section Notification setting in your device with Android Marshmallow’s new features. As you swipe down from the top of the home screen, you will see the notification tray with notifications such as missed calls, unseen messages, and others. When you swipe the second time, you will get the tray with quick settings.
Here you will also have various toggles such as mobile data, Bluetooth, WI-Fi, and others that were also available in lollipop. From here, you can also access the menu of full settings. There is also a status bar for date and time and other new icons, such as user change mode.
You will notice the system UI at the bottom of the Android Marshmallow new features settings menu. From here, you can perform several changes, such as adding an indicator for battery percentage, customizing your status bar, and many others. Also similar to the lollipop, the Easter egg here is again a Flappy Bird but, of course, in an improved way.
Google Integration in Android Marshmallow FeaturesThe most important change that has taken place from version Lollipop to Android Marshmallow features is the Google Now on Tap feature. It can activate by holding the home button. It lets you get content information on various topics from Google, your device, or any third party.
As mentioned, Google’s voice search is all over Android Marshmallow features. Voice API can now also access third-party applications, and you can offer voice commands to open any third-party applications on your device.
Also, you will have an Assist API that will allow you to get any other third-party voice search tool that can be useful along with Google.
You must have heard about Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. Now Android Marshmallow is available with Android Pay. Though, at present, this is an experimenting process, people getting Nexus devices can avail of this feature.
Performance of Android Marshmallow FeaturesOne of the very best things that Android Marshmallow Features will have is the feature of Doze. It is a battery management tool per which your device will enter hibernation if it is kept idle for a long. This is created keeping the idea in mind that during the night, often android marshmallow devices lose 25% – 30% battery.
But with the Doze feature, you are likely to lose about 3% – 5% battery just now. Similar to Doze, there is another feature available called App Standby. Several applications in your device need to be used but consume much energy. The App standby feature identifies such applications and puts them to sleep.
Android Marshmallow will get sporting with Type C charging. Now if you are trying to plug in your device in a dark room, you do not have to struggle to plug in the charger properly in the socket.
Now you can charge your device even with the reverse charger. Also, the device gets charged much faster, and the data transfer is faster than before.
Now microSD cards can be formatted for a particular device; hence if you take out the card to put it in another device, it won’t work. The card can function as internal storage, and You can store all your application Data on the card.
Security for Android Marshmallow’s new featuresAs usual, many of the applications may only work with proper permission. You can look at various permissions for each application in the Android Marshmallow settings menu. Before accessing any application, looking at each application’s permission status is a great idea.
Android Marshmallow’s new features now come with the fingerprint scanner, especially for Android Pay. If you are planning recently to buy Nexus 5X or 6P, you will get to know about the Android Marshmallow fingerprint authentication process. Along with Android Pay, you must also use your fingerprint at several other places, such as the Play Store.
But you do not have to worry about this because registering your fingerprint is easy and fast. Similarly, your fingerprint authentication to access various options is equally quick.
The earlier versions of Android were not as strong in application backup as Marshmallow. Android Marshmallow features will automatically backup all the data and the applications, and while restoring, you will get the exact same data and application you have last seen.
In this Android Marshmallow backup and restore settings, you will get another feature known as the network security reset. Through this feature, you can remove passwords and connections that were there with mobile data or Bluetooth. If you take back up of your data and application, doing so manually is also now easier than before, and restoring them is even easier.
In the section about the About Phone, there will be a security patch level. It is because Google offers monthly security updates to keep your Android operating system secure. Nexus has introduced a new technique, and other manufacturers will soon follow suit.
Several things and features have come back with the Android Marshmallow. Encryption is one such thing that is again there in Marshmallow, though it is known to slow down the system’s performance. But of course, it has also been rumored that the encryption used in Android Marshmallow features is better than the lollipop.
It offers using full disk encryption and which also, by default, is not available in any other versions. It is important because Android Marshmallow will also be in Android Wear Watches. So, in case of any Android marshmallow changes in the Android system, the users will be alerted about the system’s corruption.
The smart lock feature was also there in the Android lollipop, which is still there with Android Marshmallow. You will find this feature in the Android Marshmallow security settings option, and various forms and patterns can be used to lock and unlock the device’s home screen. It is a very useful feature for smartwatches.
The smart lock options can be from various things, such as trusted devices, places, faces, and body detection. The screen will lock automatically once you put down the phone after finishing your work. Also, you have another additional feature here: the Smart Locks for Passwords.
Usability of Android Marshmallow featuresWhen you selected a text or content in your earlier versions of Android, you must have faced a very awkward situation of various options. The Android Marshmallow developers have significantly improved this issue.
In the earlier version, when one selected text, a quick toolbar appeared, but now a floating menu with three options appears: selecting all, copying the text, or sharing the text. Also, another menu will provide you with many other options, such as web search and translation.
Android Marshmallow solved this problem, as the screenshot notification will also have an option for both share and delete now. So, unlike the earlier Android version, now you do not have to visit the gallery to delete the screenshot taken.
The silent volume feature is again there with Android Marshmallow but with some improvement. When you access the setting menu, you will get three options for volume. The first is total silence, the second is alarming only, and the third is a priority only.
You must add the exceptions in the notifications menu to set the third one. Though other Android Marshmallow features are smoother than Android Lollipop, this place can seem a bit complicated.
Another new feature that has been added is Direct Share. You no longer need to open an application and select contacts to share content.
Using the direct share feature, you have to select the individual from the contact list, and then you can share the content using the medium you wish to.
Now the Android Marshmallow operating system will also feature Chrome custom tabs for its users. Developers can customize tabs in Android Marshmallow to match used applications.
ConclusionThe features of Android Marshmallow have remained relatively the same; instead, the developers have made improvements to the features of Android Lollipop.
A detailed review of Android Marshmallow reveals various changes, including an improved display, enhanced effectiveness, and the addition of small, unnoticed features.

Windows Update for Business Group Policy or Configuration Service Provider (CSP) policies users can make use of Target Version capability in order to upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10. Microsoft Endpoint Manager’s cloud-based management capabilities can be used to consolidate device management and endpoint security into a single platform and bring-your-own-device (BYOD) ecosystem. Some of its use cases are as follow:
With Windows Autopilot, you can deploy Windows 11 devices in a “business-ready” state with the desired set of applications, settings, and policies. Using it, you can also change Windows edition, like update from Pro to Enterprise.

5] Application compatibilityYou can continue to run Windows 10’s apps on Windows 11 as claimed by Microsoft. App Assure program data shows that Windows 10 has a high compatibility rate of 99.7% for enterprises that include LOB (line-of-business) apps. For feature as well as quality updates, Windows 11 will have the same set of app compatibility validation requirements that Windows 10 currently has.
Windows 11 has App Assure and Test Base for Microsoft 365 services that are already there in Windows 10. These can help you assist and resolve issues in case your organization’s applications run into compatibility issues at no additional cost.
