Suggested March 2024 Manage Your Podcasts With Feedly And Beyondpod

Podcasting has become a mainstream media, well almost. Major news outlets like CNN and PBS use it, not mention the countless niche shows out there that cover technology news and your favorite sports team. You can find almost anything if you search around. Apple does a great job of managing with iTunes, but that is of little use to Android customers.

Fortunately there are apps available for Android, and my favorite is BeyondPod, which works in conjunction with Feedly to help you manage your shows.

At the time BeyondPod got started, it used a little known feature called Google Listen, which added a section to Reader where the podcasts you subscribe to resided. But that died along with the RSS program, leaving BeyondPod to scurry for a solution. The developers settled on that same Listen folder, but moved it to Feedly.

That is all very easy, but getting your subscriptions into the Android mobile app is perhaps a bit more confusing than it needs to be. First of course, you will need to head to the Google Play store and grab BeyondPod. You also may wish to purchase the unlock key for certain features. You must first install the app, before buying and installing the key. There are separate phone tablet versions of the app, but one key will work for both.

Open the app and tap the settings button, which is three vertical dots at the top right of the screen. Choose “More” and then select “Import or Export Feeds and tap “Import from Feedly”.

This will bring up a list of all of your Feedly folders. Look for the one marked “Listen Subscriptions” and tap to select it. This results in a list of all RSS feeds contained within the folder. You will now be able to tap on each show you want on your device, and choose categories for them, such as sports or technology. To setup categories, return to the main screen and, once again tap the menu button, followed by “More” and then “Manage Categories”.

There are also numerous settings to choose from – you can set the skip interval, set auto-delete for listened to episodes, enable auto-updating, and more. Drilling down into some of these sections can reveal even more choices, enough to be overwhelming, in fact.

There are several popular podcast clients in the Google Play store, and I can’t pretend to speak for the competition, as I chose BeyondPod when I got rid of my last dedicated MP3 player. However, being able to easily add new feeds from my computer and have them show up on my phone and tablet is a big factor in why I think BeyondPod is the way to go.

How To Correctly Identify And Manage Your External Attack Surface

More organizations are moving and restructuring their technology ecosystems to facilitate seamless communication with services that are not hosted on their local network. All publicly accessible assets that customers and employees have access to when interacting with a business online, whether owned and controlled by a company or a third party, are part of the organization’s online ecosystem. This represents the external attack surface of your organization.

Organizations that place their cyber vulnerability and attack surface visibility, understand that their external attack surface needs to be managed as much as the internal attack surface. External attack surface management has become an industry standard and a necessity for a strong cyber security posture.

Building Blocks of Your External Attack Surface

An organization’s external attack surface typically consists of all Internet-connected applications and services accessible over the Internet and is significantly different from all internally-connected applications and tools.

Organizations have many reasons for deploying Internet-connected applications. These applications and services may be a prerequisite for interacting with customers and partners. Otherwise, it might be a requirement for employees working from remote, office, locations. Examples of this are remote desktops and virtual private networks.

Examples of Internet-facing applications include web applications, APIs, SSH servers, VPN gateways, cloud services, Internet-facing firewalls, or other remote access capabilities intentionally or accidentally placed on Internet-facing servers. there is a service. Internet-connected assets can be on-premises, in the cloud, or on any combination of hosted, managed, or virtualized infrastructure.

Introducing External Attack Surface Management

Simply put, external attack surface management (EASM) refers to the processes, technologies, and professional services used to identify these external-facing corporate assets and systems that may be vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

EASM solutions are typically used to automate the discovery of all downstream services your business is exposed to. In many cases, these can be third-party partners. Because they are potentially vulnerable to attack, they can pose real and significant risks to your organization.

External Attack Surface Management Best Practices

Protecting their external attack surface gives organizations control over their cybersecurity posture. To prevent network vulnerabilities from being exploited by malicious actors, you can follow these best practices:

Regularly scan your external facing applications and system services for security vulnerabilities. Automated EASM tools will allow security teams to analyze real-time reports and immediately address security issues that are discovered.

Limit an attacker’s level of access in a compromised application by applying the principle of least privilege to service accounts. Services and APIs can be implemented easily, developers do however need to take responsibility for the secure configuration of these services.

Regularly update your applications and machine software to the latest versions to prevent intruders. Security patches and updates for development platforms and libraries are made available to developers frequently. A responsible organization will always ensure that its tools and plugins are up to date. Not doing this might put both the organization and its partners and clients in danger.

Your online presence is dynamic and constantly changing. Partners and vendors change servers and update links, but organizations have no way of knowing when those changes will occur. By implementing an automated solution these external links can routinely be investigated. Your external attack surface will overlap with that of your partners. Online tools will go a long way in securing your organization.

In Conclusion

Because of the potential damage, a cyberattack can pose, many organizations are incorporating EASM into their enterprise risk management efforts. As a result, rather than addressing the issues on an ad hoc basis, security teams are taking a more proactive approach to strategically managing known and unknown risks, vulnerabilities, and exposed assets.

How To Manage Sign In With Apple Apps On Iphone And Ipad

“Sign in with Apple” is a highly secure and private way to sign into third-party apps and websites using your Apple ID. It also makes the entire sign-in process pretty fast and hassle-free. For a change, you do not need to create and remember new passwords, which can prove to be a relief if you are looking for a password-free world. On top of that, Sign in with Apple not only works with Apple devices but also with Android and Windows. Sounds intriguing? In this detailed guide, I’m going to show you how to manage Sign in with Apple apps on iPhone and iPad.

How to Use Sign in with Apple on iPhone and iPad

Before starting out with Sign in with Apple, it’s best to know what it is all about and how it works. If you are familiar with the basics, you can directly skip to the step-by-step guide using the table of contents below. However, if you want to get started from scratch, get the fundamentals out of the way first.

What is Sign in with Apple and How Does It Work?

Sign in with Apple is a tool that protects your personal information from being exploited by third-party apps and websites. It lets you sign into apps/websites without having to provide your personal information. When you use Sign in with Apple, Apple generates a unique identifier and shares it with the developer to keep your information private. Since this identifier is distinct for each developer, your personal information can’t be gathered and shared everywhere.

In addition to this, Sign in with Apple lets you hide your email address and also prevents trackers from building a profile based on your behavior. Thanks to the privacy-centric Hide My Email feature, it allows apps, websites, and businesses to contact you without receiving your email address. With iOS 15/iPadOS 15, you can create an unlimited number of unique, random addresses for an email address field in Safari, Mail, and Settings. This, however, requires you to subscribe to iCloud+.

What Information Does Apple Collect When You Use Sign in With Apple?

Now, you may be wondering what information Apple collects when you use Sign in with Apple. While it knows whenever you use the functionality, it doesn’t see or retain the history of apps you sign in with as this information stays on your device.

One thing you should know is that the first time you use Sign in with Apple with an app, Apple shares a simple binary score with the developer. It’s done for security reasons to ensure that you are a real person. The score that Apple shares are derived from your recent Apple account activity and certain information about your device along with the usage patterns.

Create an Account Using Sign in With Apple

Once enabled, tap on the Sign in with Apple/Continue with Apple button on the supported app or website. After that, you can choose to share your email or use Hide My Email feature to protect your email. For better security, its best to hide your email. After that, tap on Continue and then confirm using your Touch ID/Face ID or passcode.

Create Sign in With Apple Account on Other Platforms

There are a few things to keep in mind. When you use the feature for the first time, you will be required to enter a verification code received on your trusted Apple device or phone number. On the web, you can skip the additional verification for 30 days after your initial sign-in by trusting the browser you are currently using.

Make Feedly A Better Rss Reader With These Google Chrome Extensions

1. GGReader

Now that Google Reader is gone, most of you have moved to Feedly and used it as the alternative to Google Reader. If you are a Google Chrome user, here are some extensions that you can use to improve your Feedly experience.

Feedly comes with its own interface and design. However, if you are too used to the Google Reader experience, this GGReader extension can turn your Feedly page into a Google Reader look-alike.

Once installed, you just have to reload your Feedly page for the changes to take effect.

This is how Feedly originally looked like:

And this is how Feedly looks after the installation of GGReader:

Did you notice that even the Feedly logo has been styled to look like Google?

The bad thing about this extension is that it doesn’t allow you to change the color scheme, nor does it show a distinction between read and unread articles. It will be great if all these issue are fixed.

2. Feedly Background Tab

When you are reading an article in Feedly, you can press the shortcut key “v” to load the article in a new tab and switch to this new tab immediately. What if you want to open it in a background tab and read it later? The Feedly Background Tab extension allows you to do just that.

Once installed, you can assign a shortcut key (the default is “;”) to the extension. While reading a feed in Feedly, you just have to press the shortcut key (;) and the article will load in a background tab. You can then continue to read other feed in Feedly.

3. Feedly Pooqer

If you are always crazy about the number of new items in your RSS reader, then this extension will be handy to you. Feedly Pooqer add an icon to your Chrome’s system tray and shows the number of unread count in your Feedly account.

You can set the interval that Feedly Pooqer polls Feedly for the unread count, but you need to be constantly logged on to Feedly (or Google).

4. Add to Feedly

Google Chrome doesn’t come with any RSS subscription feature by default. This extension not only adds a RSS subscription feature to Google Chrome, it also allows you to add the RSS feeds directly to Feedly.

5. Feedly Readable

For those who prefer to read their feeds in a distraction free environment, the Feedly Readable extension can transform the current Feedly design into a minimal distraction free interface so you can focus purely on the readability of your articles.

When this extension is active, the Feedly’s navigation pane will be missing from the interface. You just have to hover your mouse over the empty area and the navigation pane will appear.

How To Use Mail Rules To Manage Your Incoming Emails

Have you been in a situation where you always receive emails that you don’t want to receive? Even with the help of a good spam filter – you know, the kind that filters out the messages for natural male enhancement or claiming that you have won the Spanish National Lottery, there are still many other junk messages that that can get through and reach your inbox. Luckily, your Mail app (for Mac) has a solution ready and waiting for just this problem. Today we are going to learn how to filter your messages by creating flag and highlight rules for your messages. Using this method, you can then find the ones that you want to discard quickly and apply a specific action to them (like skipping the inbox and move to trash directly).

Signing In

For the first time, it will take a while for it to load your mailbox and fetch the mails from the server.

Creating A Rule

Now you can name your rule.

Select ALL from the first row of dropdown field.

In the second row, select “FROM”, “IS EQUAL TO” from the first two dropdown fields and enter the email address that you want to block in the third input field.

In the third row under the “Perform the following actions”, select “Mark as Flagged” to flag all the message from this sender.

Additionally, you can also get it to highlight the message by selecting the color from the “Set Color” field.

Now you can enjoy all of the sorting that you need to do with your inbox. Yes, you will need to make a new rule for each address you want to highlight or flag. On the bright side, it allows you to micro-manage and organize your incoming emails, so that is not a bad thing too.
