Latest Scams to Watch Out for!

In this article we will try to explain some of the latest scams.

It is the latest form of attack developed by attackers to target mobile phone users. What the hackers do is they trick the user into downloading a Trojan horse, virus or other malware onto his smartphone via SMS.

SMiShing is abbreviation for “SMS phishing”.

Hackers send a message to users stating there’s a problem with the bank account. If user responds to such message, scammer gets to know he has got a genuine contact number and then he starts using all the tactics to get more personal information of the user to hack into his account.

Shimmers Generally, chip based cards are on target as they are now used mostly. Tech-support Fraud

It is not something new but the tactics used these days are new. Sometime or the other we all face problem with our PC – it freezes suddenly or displays pop up messages that annoy us. When we want to fix them, a small message with a phone number appears, mentioning they can help to fix the problem. What user does is he calls on the number in hope of getting the issue fixed, without realizing he is falling for a trap.

This scam is referred to as class of telephone fraud where scammer claims to be legitimate technical support, but in reality, he is scammer. It is a form of online scam that is gaining popularity and is on the rise. The scammer uses social engineering and anxiety strategies to trick the user and make money. If you fall prey to any of these tactics you should handle them intelligently. If you receive any tech call and they ask you to pay for a plan to get the things fixed, don’t share your card number with them. Tech support scams are rapidly increasing and one small error made by us can make us pay a huge amount. Therefore, being cautious is the best way to stay secure from such attacks.

5 Digital Trends To Watch Out For In 2023

Every year brings with it new opportunities for digital success, and in this post, you will see my digital movers and shakers watch list for 2023.

The focus has been on the top search marketing and digital trends to keep a look out for so you can consider adding them into your marketing mix more effectively (or for the first time) as we move further into 2023.

Social Media Slows but Will Continue to Grow

I feel like I am cheating slightly by adding this in, however, when looking at the dominant, unstoppable forces for 2023, I cannot omit social media. With new social media platforms entering the market and existing channels continuing to grow, this social media take over is far from over, although I expect the channel specific growth to slow somewhat.

Search Engine Journal’s Aki Libo-on wrote about this social media growth infographic that covers everything from active users and annual growth, through to user demographics and platform stats. Here’s a snippet from the infographic:

According to a recent report from Our Social Times:

Over a nine month period, the growth of Instagram far exceeded that of other social media platforms, including a growth spurt (between March and December 2014) where it surpassed the 300 million user mark and expanded its audience by approximately 50 percent

Facebook, surprisingly, had more video views in a single month that YouTube from desktops, however, the change in the Facebook video ‘auto play’ functionality likely had a direct impact on that

Snapchat is one of the fastest growing social media and messaging apps with six monthly growth in 2014 exceeding that of Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Pinterest, Vine, and many other alternatives

Low-Cost Marketing Will Expand—It’s Not All About Emails

When you think of low-cost marketing the first item that often springs to mind is email marketing. By 2023, I would imagine that a vast majority of businesses have trialed incorporating emails for newsletters, company  updates, industry changes, promotions, exciting news and more. By comparison, a fewer percentage will have expanded this low-cost marketing scope to incorporate items like text marketing (also known as SMS marketing and mobile marketing), but there is a growing trend.

According to UK SMS providers, Textlocal’s M-Commerce’ white paper, a company who I work with,:

Almost 4 million men and women in the UK are keen to hear from retailers by text at least once per month.

When you begin to broaden the types of low-cost marketing and expand the areas within the marketing mix that to employ, you will be surprised by the responses gained, even from the same distribution lists. One of the factors for this is that people digest communication differently, so acknowledging that in the diversity of approaches to your target audience will improve key performance metrics like open rates, response rates, and more.

Digital Marketing Will Become Even More Integrated in 2023

When you have distinct search marketing and digital expertise collaboratively working, you will be able to mitigate most of the drawbacks of one marketing channel with the benefits of another. From initial objective setting and strategy creation, through to identification of key results, metrics for defining success, and ultimately actions completed – many more businesses will be investing in integrated search marketing as 2023 progresses.

Below you can see an example of a digital integrated working model:

To support effective integrated working, companies will become more creative in their delivery approaches including internal staff interaction, as well as the working relationships with external service providers, changing the historical outsourcing approach to increase the external team mentality.

Omni-channel marketing (really another means to describe multi-channel marketing) was a quickly growing buzzword in 2023 (starting its growth in late 2013), and the trend is set to continue globally in 2023, too. Here is an example of what this trend looks like (you can see the Google Trend here):

Mobile Will be Included in Every Marketing Strategy

The growth of mobile search has been well documented and a recent study from Smart Insights tells us that this trend is going to remain active for some time to come. Mobile device targeting is not a new trend, but many businesses have not yet embraced it fully, or focused on the mobile opportunity enough to see it reach anywhere near its true ROI potential.  A few key points from this recent study include the following.

Global mobile device users: Mobile users exceed desktop users on a global scale, this means that the opportunity to generate business value from effective mobile marketing has never been greater than it is right now. An increasing number of marketers are changing their approach to reflect this, and I see this continuing to build some momentum through 2023. There is some suggested plateauing of this, but I do not see 2023 being the time-frame in which this comes to fruition.

Internet access types: People are spending the majority of their daily internet viewing time using mobile devices, in fact, 51% of the total time spent in 2023 was with mobile phones and devices. When you consider the often intermittent mobile internet access (consider items like walking to and from locations, periods of working day downtime (breaks, etc.) and often quick internet access actions between tasks) this will shape many marketing approaches based on this and other behavioral identification too.

Data: It’s Getting Bigger and it’s Real Time

When looking at digital industry trends and key movers and shakers influencing approaches to service delivery, you cannot overlook the role of big data and real-time data. Marketers have access to more information than at any other stage of human existence, and the challenge for successful digital marketing in 2023 and beyond is making meaning from all this data.

Data fuels everything from content creation and insights, through to reporting and strategy refinement. If you are making any digital decisions without data, you are likely overlooking a wealth of extra opportunity.

Here’s an example of a deep data platform in action. This is the Apollo Insights platform with information from the agency I work for, Vertical Leap. The screenshot demonstrates agile dashboard functionality, pulling in unique data sets for generating insights from information:

What’s Next?

The digital industry is always moving at a fast pace, and perhaps it is the speed of change that is the main constant.

While I am confident in my predictions for 2023 digital trends to watch out for, I am aware that there is so much more that can be added to my list. On this point, I would love to hear what you think about my predictions for digital trend movers and shakers in 2023, as well as your own predictions.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback.

How Machine Learning Algorithms & Hardware Power Apple’s Latest Watch And Iphones

This is a great time to be a data scientist – all the top tech giants are integrating machine learning into their flagship products and the demand for such professionals is at an all-time high. And it’s only going to get better!

In this article, we’ll check out some of the ways Apple has used machine learning to enrich the user experience. And believe me, some of the numbers you’ll see will blow your mind.

And if you’re already itching to get started with building your first ML models on an iPhone using Apple’s CoreML, check out this excellent article.

The A12 Chip

Source: The Verge

The A12 is using features as small as 7 nanometers as compared to 10 in the A11, which explains the acceleration in speed. And did you really think Apple would let the event slide without mentioning battery life? The A12 chip has a smart compute system that automatically recognizes which tasks should run on the primary part of the chip, which ones should be sent to the GPU, and which ones should be delegated to the neural engine.

So what’s the deal with the neural engine?

Source: Apple Insider

The neural engine’s key functions are two-fold:

To use facial recognition algorithm with super quick speed to authenticate Face ID. This algorithm uses neural networks to map certain facial features/points and has of course been trained on millions of images to avoid making a mistake in the real product. It’s critical that the algorithm factors in physical objects like glasses and people’s hair into account, which Apple says it will do this year with even more accuracy

To track facial movement for Animojis. Similar to the description above, the algorithm maps certain facial features and converts them into an animal emoji face in real-time

This year’s engine has eight cores which is how the chip can perform 5 trillion operations per second. Last year’s version had two cores and could go up to 600 billion operations per second. It’s a nice microcosm of how rapidly technology is evolving in front of our eyes.

And the neural engine can do even more..

It will help iPhone users take better pictures (how much better can you get every year?!). When you press the shutter button, the neural network identifies the kind of scene in the lens, and makes a clear distinction between any object in the image and the background. So next time you take a photograph, just remember how quick the neural network must be, to do all this in a matter of milliseconds.

You can learn all about object detection and computer vision algorithms in our ‘Computer Vision using Deep Learning‘ course! It’s a comprehensive offering and an invaluable addition to your machine learning skillset.

The Apple Watch

The Apple Watch Series 4 feels like a health monitoring device more than at any point since it’s debut four years back. Of course all the excitement is around the watch’s design and how it’s 35% bigger than last year’s product. But let’s step out of that limelight and look at one of the more intriguing features – new health sensors.

The Watch comes with an electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor. Why is this important, you ask? Well for starters, it’s the first smartwatch to pack in this feature. But more importantly, the sensor measure not just your heart’s rate, but also it’s rhythm. This helps monitor any irregular rhythm and the Watch immediately alerts you in case of any impending danger. These sensors have been approved by the FDA and the American Heart Association.

Further, these the Series 4 watches are integrated with an improved accelerometer and gyroscope. This will help the sensors in detecting if the wearer has fallen over. Once a person has fallen over and shown no sign of movement for 60 seconds, the device sends out an emergency call to up to five (pre-defined) emergency contacts simultaneously.

I’m sure you must have guessed by now what’s behind all these updates? Yes, it’s machine learning. Healthcare, as I mentioned in this article, is ripe for taking in machine learning terms. There are billions of data points at play, and combining ML with domain expertise is where the jackpot lies. I’m glad to see companies like Apple utilizing it, albeit in their own products.

End Notes

The competition between the likes of Apple, Google, and others is heating up and artificial intelligence and machine learning could be the key to winning the battle. Hardware is critical here – as it gets significant upgrades each year, more and more complex algorithms can be built in.

Fascinated by all this and looking for a way to get started with data science? Try out our ‘Introduction to Data Science‘ course today! We will help you take your first steps into this awesome new world.

You couldn’t have picked a better time to get into data science, honestly. A quick glance at Apple’s official job postings shows more than 400 openings for machine learning related positions. The question then remains whether there are enough experienced people to fulfill that demand.

Latest Twrp Recovery For Samsung Galaxy S3 Gt

The international variant being, of course, the most widely used variant of the Galaxy S3, has a large development base.

Recently, Team Win has pushed out on update for GT-I9300 which promises to be void of the recovery in-compatibility issue with KitKat ROMs, which was due to ‘set metadata recursive’ error.

Now, all the Android 4.4 ROMs available for International Galaxy S3 like CyanogenMod 11, ParanoidAndroid, SlimKat, etc will be fully functional with this latest version of TWRP Recovery.

At the time of posting, the latest version of TWRP recovery for the International Variant of Galaxy S3 is

Warranty may be void of your device if you follow the procedures given on this page!

You only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

To make sure your device is eligible with this, you must first confirm its model no. in ‘About device’ option under Settings. Another way to confirm model no. is by looking for it on the packaging box of your device. It must be GT-I9300!

Please know that this page is meant only for Samsung Galaxy S3, model no. GT-I9300. Please DO NOT try the procedures given here on other variants of the Galaxy S3: GT-I9305/GT-I9305T, or the S4 sets at US Cellular, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and others who have different model no.

You must do this pre-installation stuff before attempting to install TWRP Recovery on your International Galaxy S3 in order to avoid any complications later, and have a smooth and successful process.

Back up important data and stuff before you start playing around here as there are chances you might lose your apps and app-data (app settings, game progress, etc.), and in rare case, files on sd card, too.

For help on Backup and Restore, check out our exclusive page on that linked right below.

You must have proper and working driver installed on your windows computer to be able to successfully flash TWRP Recovery on your Samsung Galaxy S3. In case you’re not sure, follow the link below for a definitive guide for installing driver for your Galaxy S3 on your computer.

If your android device, or PC, powers off due to lack of battery while the process is underway, it could damage the device.

So, make sure both of them are adequately charged and that no power interruption takes place when the process is undergoing — at least 50% battery of the device and laptop is what we would recommend.

└ Use original USB cable to connect your phone to PC.

└ Do not use the procedures given below on Mac (using VMWare) as it works best on proper Windows PC only.

If you haven’t used Odin software to install a recovery on a Samsung galaxy device before, we suggest you first watch a video of that, given right below, to get familiar with the process.

Btw, the video below shows installing the the CWM (Yes, not TWRP) recovery on Samsung Galaxy S3, but as the process is exactly same, it doesn’t matter.

Download the file given below and save them in a separate folder on your computer (just to keep things tidy, that is).

File name: (8.2 MB)

Extract/Unzip the TWRP Recovery file, on your computer (using 7-zip free software, preferably). You’ll get the following files:

Odin3 v3.09.exe

Disconnect the Galaxy S3 from PC if it is connected.

Boot your International Galaxy S3 into Download Mode: (The image below of Galaxy Note 2 would help)

Power off your phone first and wait for 6-7 seconds after display is off.

Press and hold these 3 buttons together until you see Warning! screen: Volume Down + Power + Home.

If you don’t get the Added! message, here are some

troubleshooting tips

Make sure you have installed driver for Galaxy S3 as said above in ‘Before you begin..’ section.

If you have already installed driver, then uninstall them and reinstall back.

Connect using a different USB port on your PC.

Try a different USB cable. The original cable that came with your phone should work best, if not, try any other cable that’s new and of good quality.

Reboot phone and PC and then try again.

Load the recovery file (extracted in Step 1) into Odin as instructed below:

Now in the Option section of Odin, make sure that Re-Partition box is unchecked. (Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time boxes remain checked, while all other boxes remain unchecked.)

Double check the above two steps.

If you see FAIL message instead of the RESET in Odin’s top left box, that a problem. Try this now: disconnect your Galaxy S3 from PC, close Odin, remove phone’s battery and put it back inside in 3-4 seconds, open Odin and then repeat from Step 3 of this guide again.

Also, If device is Stuck at setup connection or on any other process, then too, try this: disconnect your Galaxy S3 from PC, close Odin, remove phone’s battery and put it back inside in 3-4 seconds, open Odin and then repeat from Step 3 of this guide again.
