Suggested April 2024 How To Get Twitter Notifications On Web & Mobile

Twitter has grown to become so much more than a social news website, now boasting over 500 million tweets every day. People use it to get their daily fix of news, weather, politics, and all sorts of general banter.

Although a considerable portion of Twitter consists of users just chit-chatting and tweeting out things that come to mind, there are many reasons why you may be keenly interested in a particular user’s tweets. For me, it was when the official Twitter account for a game that I follow began regularly tweeting out free Steam keys. That’s something I want to pay attention to!

Table of Contents

Whether it’s to stay informed of news, snag freebies before others, or pay a little “extra attention” to your significant other, there are plenty of reasons why Twitter notifications can be useful.

In this article, let’s go over how you can enable notifications for individual Twitter accounts on both web and mobile.

How To Get Twitter Notifications On The Web

Twitter’s integrated web notifications have been a bit of an anomaly ever since they launched. In multiple versions of Chrome and Firefox, users are told that their browser does not support the feature. That’s a major problem.

However, there’s a trusty service that helps fix issues like this one: IFTTT. We’ve gone over how to use IFTTT in the past, so read up if you’re unfamiliar with the service.

To get Twitter notifications, let’s start by creating a new IFTTT applet with Twitter. While doing so, there are two trigger actions that are suited best for what we’re trying to accomplish – New tweet by a specific user and New tweet from search.

Looking for tweets from a specific user is self-explanatory—the trigger will fire every time a single user sends out a tweet. For simple purposes, this is very useful. However, looking for tweets from search is much more robust.

First and foremost, finding tweets from search is limited to 15 results per check. How often IFTTT polls for updates is a mysterious variable. Although it says in your applet’s settings how often it should check, it can be from anywhere to within a few seconds to 15 minutes.

Keep this in mind when creating your search query. Using OR and AND operators, you can group several searches into one. However, you may not want to do such a thing if you’d like to stay safely under the 15 results per check limitation.

As aforementioned, you can use a search query to combine a basic search for multiple users, like so:

from:onlinetechtips OR from:c89

You can also more narrowly filter tweets down to the presence of certain keywords, like this:

from:toejamandearl “xbox code”

Once you’ve decided on which search query you’ll use, save your trigger. Now is when you’ll need to determine how to receive your Twitter notification.

Here are some example “That” services that can notify you when your trigger is fired:

Android SMS: connects to your Android phone and lets you send an SMS to any number (can be used in tandem with a Google Voice number and Google Voice notification extension).

Facebook Messenger: sends a Facebook message.

Gmail: send yourself an email.

Notifications: sends a notification to your IFTTT-connected devices.

Phone call: calls your number (US only) to leave a voicemail.

Slack: posts to a channel.

Additionally, IFTTT supports services such as Pushbullet and Pushover, which act as ways to aggregate all of your Twitter notifications between devices. This can assist you in receiving notifications on your desktop, Chromebook, and other non-mobile gadgets.

While IFTTT isn’t the perfect solution, due to a slight delay in checking, its flexibility helps make up for it. You can receive notifications for tweets in so many interesting ways.

How To Get Twitter Notifications On Mobile

Since IFTTT does offer a mobile app, which includes trigger actions such as sending an SMS or push notification, it’s also a reasonable solution for smartphone users. If you want to receive mobile notifications from search-based tweets, it’s your only option.

If you decide you’d rather turn mobile notifications back off, you can follow the same instructions for either platform.

How To Get Yahoo Mail Notifications In Firefox

While most email users find Gmail to be their go-to email service provider, most of us still maintain a Yahoo account since it’s been around longer than Gmail. Also, some users still prefer Yahoo’s interface simply because it’s what they’re used to.

If you use Yahoo Mail for most of your email correspondence, then there is a quicker, more compact way of tracking your emails within your browser. Fastest Notifier for Yahoo Mail is an add-on for Firefox that lets you check your Yahoo mail and receive Yahoo mail notifications from the browser’s add-on bar.

The add-on does not require a restart after installation, so you immediately see the Yahoo icon on the top-right corner of the browser. The number of unread emails appear in red on top of the icon.

You should then see your inbox, and unread messages will be listed on top of the page in bold letters.

You can batch edit messages and delete, move to another folder, or mark them as spam from the buttons located at the bottom of the inbox.

Note that opened email messages will be marked as read, and these changes will reflect on the notifier icon. A clear Yahoo icon (without red numbers) means that there are no new messages at the moment.

Other than accessing the Yahoo inbox, you can also access your Yahoo Contacts and Calendar from this tool.

Since this add-on has access to your Yahoo Contacts, you can use this to add recipients to your email.

Fastest Notifier for Yahoo, as the name implies, notifies you of new Yahoo email in a timely manner. It takes under a minute from the time an email is received to get notified using this add-on.

Surprisingly, the ability to compose a new message and reply to existing ones are added features that make the add-on even more useful. Due to the limited space provided when viewing and composing emails, this interface is suited more towards quick email scanning and writing short replies.

Nevertheless, for notification alone, this add-on does the job without the fuss of a lengthy set-up process. It’s fast and anyone can do it.

How To View Sensitive Content In Twitter On Iphone, Ipad, And Web

In this article, I will explain what sensitive content is, why Twitter displays the warning, and how you can view sensitive content.

What is sensitive content on Twitter?

As mentioned earlier, there is a wide range of content available on Twitter. There are times when users share media that depict violence or adult content which might be sensitive content to some users. As the social media giant moderates this content, it ensures to hide it from searches and marks it as sensitive so that it is displayed to you at your discretion.

Twitter also restricts adult content to users who are below the age of 18 or users who haven’t added their birth date to their profile. Twitter groups sensitive media into the following categories:

Graphic violence

Adult content

Violent sexual conduct

Gratuitous gore

Hateful imagery

According to the Sensitive media policy of Twitter, you can share graphic violence or consensually produced adult content provided you mark it as sensitive media. However, Twitter does not allow Violent sexual conduct, Gratuitous gore, and Hateful imagery.

Moreover, the company also moderates and restricts content based on the media type and where it is being shared. For example, if someone shares hateful imagery under a Tweet, the content will be automatically hidden, and there are chances of the account being permanently banned.

Why does Twitter display ‘This Tweet might include sensitive content’ warning?

There will be several accounts on the platform that post sensitive content regularly. If you happen to visit such accounts, Twitter will display a warning along the lines of, “Caution: This profile may include potentially sensitive content. You’re seeing this message because they Tweet potentially sensitive images or language. Do you still want to view it?” Again, you have a choice to view this content, which is also the purpose of displaying this warning.

How to see sensitive content in Twitter on iPhone and web

Please note that you cannot enable the setting that lets you view sensitive content by default using the Twitter app for iPhone. This is because the setting is not displayed or, so to say, not available within the iPhone app. In this case, iPhone and Mac users need to follow very similar steps to enable the “Display media that may contain sensitive content” setting. Here’s how:

Open Safari or any web browser and log in to your Twitter account.

Navigate to Settings and Support.

Tap Privacy and safety.

Now, tap Content you see.

How to allow sensitive content in searches on Twitter

Content that is marked as sensitive and accounts that frequently post sensitive content do not appear under searches by default. This is because the Hide Sensitive Content setting is enabled by default within the privacy settings of your account. If you would like to disable this setting, follow the steps listed below.

(Note: These settings are not available on the Twitter application for iPhone. However, you can follow these steps using a web browser on any device.)

Open Safari or any web browser of your choice.

Log in to your Twitter account.

Navigate to Settings and Support.

Select Settings and privacy.

Tap Privacy and safety.

Now, tap Content you see.

You can now search for Tweets or accounts that potentially display sensitive content.

Disable sensitive content warning for your own Tweets

If you Tweet regularly, but your Tweets do not generate any reach at all, there is a possibility that you might have accidentally turned on the sensitive content warning for your own Tweets. Twitter not only gives users a choice to view or ignore sensitive content, but it also ensures restriction of this content from showing up in other users’ timelines or under search results. If you do not post sensitive content, you might want to disable this setting. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to do so.

Open the Twitter app on your iPhone.

Tap your Profile Picture at the top left corner.

Select Settings and support → Settings and privacy.

Now, tap Privacy and safety.

Select the Your Tweets option.

And that’s a wrap!

As of writing this article, it’s been less than a week since Elon Musk took over Twitter. I’m sure he’ll be making several changes to the platform shortly. Whether these changes will be for the better or worse is yet to be known. However, as and when these changes take place, I’ll ensure to update the article.

If you’re using the Twitter app on your mobile device, you won’t be able to access the scheduler.

To bypass this, you can use Twitter on a browser (e.g. Safari, Chrome) on your mobile device.

The new scheduler allows users to compose a tweet, save it as a draft or schedule it for later.

It’s a seamless way to organize and send tweets in the future instead of coming up with one on the spot.

Surprisingly, not many users are aware of this feature because it’s still pretty new.

However, the web app has these features.

Your drafts and scheduled tweets will only sync with the web version of Twitter, and not with the app.

Hence, you need to visit Twitter on a browser.

Next, you need to compose a new tweet and use the calendar icon to schedule it.

After you’re finished with composing the tweet, take a look at the bottom navigation bar of it.

There are five different icons on the bottom navigation bar—the image, gif, poll, emojis, and a calendar.

The icon that you want to use is the calendar icon.

3. Choose the date & time

Edit the date and time that you want to schedule your tweet.

Under the “Date” form, choose the month, day, and year that you want to schedule your tweet.

You can schedule tweets up to a year ahead.

Next, choose the time that you want to schedule your tweet under “time”.

The last option is the time zone.

This is because the time zone will automatically be set based on your location.

So, before you schedule a tweet, make sure that the time you’re scheduling it is when your followers are the most active.

For example, if the majority of your followers are from the US, try scheduling the tweet at 9 am EST.

Use a time converter to check the 9 am EST time in your time zone.

Lastly, schedule the tweet based on the converted time.

Immediately after, you’ll see the message, “Your Tweet will be sent on Day, Date at Time”.

In social media, consistency is key to growing your followers and engagement.

On the other hand, someone who doesn’t post at all wouldn’t grow as much.
