Apple’s stock Camera app in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 has expanded recording options by enabling you to snap a picture or record video with the volume buttons. Follow along with our step-by-step tutorial as we demonstrate to you how to capture burst photos or shoot QuickTake videos with the iPhone camera using just the volume buttons.

A new way to use iPhone camera

This is a great feature for those times when you’re unable to tap the shutter button in the Camera app. For instance, maybe it’s winter and you’re wearing gloves. Or, you might find it impractical to find the shutter button when talking selfies with the rear camera.

However, it requires an iPhone with iOS 14.0+ or any iPad supported by iPadOS 14.0+.

iPhone camera and the volume buttons

Before iOS 14, the volume buttons used to be a replacement for the camera shutter. Pressing either volume button in iOS 13’s Camera app let you snap a photo or record a video:

In addition, iOS 13 and earlier supported using the volume buttons for shooting videos and to start recording a QuickTake video while in Photo mode:

iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, however, bring more flexibility in terms of using hardware buttons for iPhone photography. For starters, you can now configure the Camera app to capture burst photos when pressing and holding the volume up button. Similarly, QuickTake videos can be shot by holding the volume down button, and older devices now support this functionality, too.

How to take QuickTake video and burst photos with volume buttons

QuickTake is a feature of the Camera app that makes it easy to capture video while taking photos without switching modes. As mentioned earlier, iOS 13 limits QuickTake functionality to the 2023 iPhone SE and iPhone 11 family. iOS 14, however, lets you use QuickTake on the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR models, too. Plus, iOS 14 enables you to optionally take bursts with the volume up button and QuickTakes with the volume down button.

Follow these steps as we show you how:

Open Settings on your iPhone with iOS 14.0+.

Choose Camera from the root list.

Toggle on the option Use Volume Up for Burst.

Now when you’re in Photo mode, you can take a cascade of photos in rapid succession by pressing and holding the volume up button on an iPhone XS/XR or newer. QuickTake now only works by pressing and holding the volume down button.

Again, if you’re on iOS 13 or have an iPhone, you won’t see this setting. Similarly, folks who rock iPhones older than the iPhone XS/XR, such as an iPhone X or iPhone 8, you won’t see this option either. In that case, pressing and holding either volume button will start shooting a burst of photos just like before.

You cannot take videos with customizable resolution, stereo audio and audio zoom while using the QuickTake feature. For that, you’ll need to switch to Video mode in the Camera app.

QuickTakes without hardware buttons

Like iOS 13, iOS 14 still lets you use the QuickTake feature without any hardware buttons.

Simply swipe to Video mode in Camera, then press and hold the shutter button to start shooting a QuickTake video. Let go to stop recording. To record a longer QuickTake video without holding the button all the time, slide the shutter button to the right to lock recording.

With your QuickTake video recording session locked, you can even take a still photo by hitting that white shutter button that appears to the right. To stop recording, tap the red record button. And now, for my last tip: slide the shutter button to the left and hold it to take a burst of photos.

How To Easily Transfer Contacts, Photos, And Videos From An Iphone To Another

Depending on your set up, transferring contacts, photos and videos from your old iPhone to your new one can be pretty simple. You might use iCloud to store all this data, in which case, your contacts and photos/videos will automatically come back once you sign in your new device. Or maybe you back it all up in iTunes, which allows you to sync all that data from your computer to your new iPhone. Maybe you don’t do any of that, and if you’re looking for a relatively quick and easy way to transfer all this data from one iPhone to another, then read on.

There definitely are several ways you can go about transferring content from one iPhone to another, and one I just found out about relies on an application by US carrier AT&T, called AT&T Mobile Transfer, a free download in the App Store. The best part is, you apparently don’t even need to be an AT&T customer to use this application.

In this post, I will show you how to use the AT&T Mobile Transfer app to move your photos, videos, and contacts from one iPhone to another. This is obviously pretty handy if you just got a new iPhone and want to transfer all this data without stressing too much about how to go about it.

1) Download the AT&T Mobile Transfer application on both devices (the iPhone you want to transfer From, and the iPhone you want to transfer To).

2) Make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

3) Open the application on the old iPhone. Tap on the “From this device” button at the bottom of the screen. The application will briefly scan your device and ask permission to access your contacts, as well as your photo library. You obviously want to allow it access.

4) The app will now display a QR code, which will be used by the other iPhone (the new one). Keep this screen on as you move to the next steps.

5) Open the AT&T Mobile Transfer app on the new iPhone, and tap on the “To this device” at the bottom of the screen.

6) You will now be asked to enter your phone number. But if you aren’t an AT&T customer, fear not, because this step is virtually useless. Simply enter 10 digits, and you will be good to go. No need to enter an actual phone number. Tap Next to move to the next step.

7) The application will request access to your contacts and photo library. Again, you want to make sure you allow it access.

8) Now you will be able to scan the QR code that was presented to you in step 4 above. With your iPhone, aim at the QR code, which the app will quickly recognize.

9) You will now see some basic transfer options. You can choose to transfer all content at once, or selectively choose contacts, or photos, or videos. The app also gives an estimate of how long it will take to transfer all your data. For example, it would take about 49 minutes to transfer my 227 contacts, 1,606 photos, and 37 videos.

10) When you’re done selecting what you want to transfer, tap the Transfer button in the upper right corner. Transfer will then start. From there, you will just have to be patient, and make sure you don’t touch either devices until the transfer is completed. Note you can abort the transfer at any time by tapping on the Stop button.

Contacts should transfer in a matter of seconds, however if you have hundreds or thousands of photos and videos, it’s going to take a while. Just make sure not to quit the apps on both devices during transfer.

3. If you wish to save individual stories, tap on the Story you want to save from the profile page and swipe up (or tap on the vertical three-dot menu icon at the top right corner) on the screen. Then, tap the “Save” button at the bottom left corner.

4. As mentioned earlier, you can now long-press the video saved under “Memories” and tap the “Export” button. From the share sheet, tap the “Download” button to bring the Snapchat video to your camera roll.

1. Long-press a video someone sent you and tap the “Save in Chat” option. You won’t see this option on images and videos set as “play once” before sending them. Once you save the video in chat, Snapchat will notify the recipient about it, and both of you will see the video in the conversation window.

2. Now, long-press the saved video again and select “Save to Camera Roll”. Again, Snapchat will let the other person know that you saved the video to your camera roll. The messaging app greatly values your privacy, and this feature highlights the work it has put in to safeguard your private photos and videos.

Snapchat rightfully doesn’t let users directly download videos a user has sent them. For aesthetics or practical reasons, you can put a timestamp over your photos to make it clear when it was taken. In this tutorial, we will show you how to quickly add the current date and time over your pictures or use a camera app that automatically adds a timestamp over the photos it takes.

If you recall, digital cameras we used before the popularity of smartphones would usually add a small orange or yellow timestamp in a corner of the pictures you took with it. It served well to inform when the image was shot.

Similarly, when you take a picture on your iPhone, it already puts the location, date & time, and a bunch of other information in the photo file. This information is called metadata, and you can even tweak or remove it. The problem is – this date and time info is only visible when you view that picture in the Photos app or see its properties on your computer.

Therefore, if you want to put the date and time explicitly over an image, we will show you how to do that using free iOS apps.

1. Using the Watermark app
