Retro Style Games In 2023: The Best Pixel Games For Android

Those most of the 80s kids out there, the earliest memories of gaming go back to the days of Nintendo and Atari. It is on these retro consoles where the pixelated characters such as Super Mario and Double Dragon brought tremendous joy and excitement to us.

Over the years, the gaming industry has experienced a rocketing progress and we’ve come a long way from playing humble pixel games to high-graphic titles in all the genres. However, there is still something truly special about the old times, which is why despite owning high-powered mobile devices that are capable of explosive performance, we still come back to Pixel-style games.

8 Best offline multiplayer games for Android

The idea of bringing back 8-Bit and 16-Bit retro style gaming may have been started by games like Minecraft, but the craze has definitely caught on. Thanks to their sheer popularity, here are some of the best Pixel games available on the Google Play Store that have been tried and tested to be insanely addictive.

Best Pixel games for Android

In a post PlayStation era when retro games seemed like a dying concept, this open-world RPG changed the way games were played altogether. Now that Minecraft has been made available to mobile devices, it qualified easily as one of the best pixel style games out there.

The game gives you the ability to go about in a massively infinite world surviving, exploring, and building things from scratch. From playing alone to joining up with your crew across different platforms, Minecraft does not have a particular mission line for you, and that’s what makes it so relaxingly enjoyable.

There’s a lot more that goes into professional track racing, and with Grand Prix Story 2, you become the guiding hand of the man behind the wheel. This RPG simulation game puts you in control of your very own race team, and it’s your life’s work to become number one.

Start off by building your own vehicles from the ground up and customizing/upgrading each and every part bit by bit as you progress. With different tracks, you need to employ different strategies and make sure that you hit that nitro boost at the right time to race ahead of the competition and leave them in the dust.

PlayerUnknown’s Battleground or PUBG as you may know it has already conquered the mobile world with its intriguing gameplay and multiplayer capabilities. Now you get the same enthralling action but with less battery-hogging graphics in the pixelated world of Pixel Gun 3D.

Far from a retro game, this modern shooter game puts you on the face of a block world where everyone is out to get you and become the lone survivor. With the ability to play with up to 8 friends in a single game, break into buildings to find high-powered weapons from rifles to lightsabres, all while chatting with your team in real time.

10 Most popular PC games you can play on Android today

With 60 Million+ subscribers, Felix Kjellberg is probably the most famous YouTuber out there, and most of us know him by PewDiePie. With this particular game, you get to live out as the YouTube himself and play this awkwardly amazing platformer that is designed completely in retro style.

Your goal is to run through the different platformer scenarios collecting BROCOINS (coins for bros, get it?) which allow you to unlock different characters like other YouTubers such as JackSepticEye, Marzia, Markiplier and more, along with real voice acting and epic boss fights that keep the repetitive game refreshing each time you play it.

The very foundation of the success that SQUARE ENIX Studios enjoys today is based on the FINAL FANTASY series, and thanks to popular demand, the entire lineup has been brought to the Android platform. With a bunch of main characters to select from that you play as the protagonist, the FINAL FANTASY series is a collection of drama, fantastic storyline and more.

Designed to be a detailed saga of a mystic land far away, you get a mix of magic, pixelated style action and plenty of brawls, all packed into one. This RPG (role-playing game) has defined the genre for decades, and now you get to enjoy it on the go with your Android device.

Answering the age-old question of why the chicken crossed the road, Crossy Road is an epic take at what makes endless platformers so addictive. Packed with a simple gameplay where the goal is to literally just cross the street and get over to the other end, the seamless user interface is what makes it so much fun.

As you cross the streets carefully while keeping an eye out for incoming traffic, unlock and collect over 150 different retro-style characters. The game is among the few good ones available on the big screen with Android TV and is surely worth a try.

The entire Tycoon genre of games goes a long way back, and the RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic can be easily credited as Atari’s best post-retro era games. Putting you in the seat of power to create your very own theme park, this simulation game is like no other, especially if you’re in the mood for some nostalgia.

Combining the elements of the classic ones for the mobile version, RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic comes with a highly customizable landscape where you can build up massive rollercoasters, make sure your guests have amenities such as food stalls and restrooms to keep them chirped up, and so much more to run a successful virtual amusement park.

Paying homage to the 8-Bit and 16-Bit games that most of us grew up enjoying, Super Phantom Cat is another jewel in the crown of endless platformer games. You’re put in the role of Chemist White as you make your way through the perilous Phantom World jumping over obstacles and making your way through.

Not just one, but multiple generations of gamers have grown up enjoying the lighting speed running ability and joyfulness of Sonic the Hedgehog. SEGA is back to take you down the memory lane with the all-time classic game that was one of the founding pillars of the platformer game genre.

Despite being decades old, Sonic the Hedgehog™ Classic still stands neck to neck with the best Android games, offering an intuitive control system with a crisp 60FPS for unmatched smoothness. From the vermin’ ability to boost forward, jump and climb across the levels, unlock Sonic’s friends such as Knuckles, Tails, and others and use their unique abilities.

The entire reason why Pokémon Go became such as viral sensation is the fact that nostalgic gamers remembered how much they enjoy catching all those mystic creatures on their Game Boy. With the release of Pokémon Quest, Nintendo is taking it one step further with the same old fun of entertainment of RPG’s but with a twist.

Taking shape in the form of modern pixelated style games, Pokémon Quest drops you off on the Tumblecube island packed with your favorite Pokémon, all of which are in cuboid form. It’s time to go around the island with your companions, find wild creatures and recruit them into your crew while keeping an eye out for dangers that lurk in the shadows.

While the Google Play Store has been able to encompass most genres of gaming, there are only a handful of sandbox simulation games, and this one is among the coolest pixel-style offerings out there. Play God and bring your very own creations to life in a massive simulation where you control everything from the environment to the creatures.

With more than 170 different elements to play around with, you can build massive worlds by simply selecting elements such as dinosaurs, volcanic mountains, massive Megalodon sharks and so much more. You can even create your very own games within the Sandbox Evolution and built your very own civilization of pop culture characters.

Remember the old days of Farmville where you distant Facebook friends kept sending you unwanted livestock and harvested your fields for you? Tiny Pixel Farm is based on a similar concept of giving you the control of your very own farm, but this time around, your world is pixelated and does not require you to be on a social media website.

You inherited a patch of land from your grandfather which has not been irrigational in a long time, but it is up to you to change that. From turning things around for the resident cattle to looking after your property and the guests who come over for a country trip, the simplicity of an otherwise complicated game style makes Tiny Pixel Farm so good.

Play for your very own team among the 32 participants who made it to the Brazil World Cup in 2023. Gather around the best of your squad and gear them up for the Pixel World Cup to hold your head high with different weather conditions and even stadiums that you can pick yourself.

You start off as Dan, but can later unlock more characters like Josie and Barry Steakfries as you push through Story Modes, Endless Survival, and the Battle Mode. As you walk through the game fighting epic bosses, unlock special costumes to power up your character and keep up with the Daily Events for more specials.

Mac Bluetooth Not Working? Here Are The Fixes

Mac Bluetooth Not Working? Here Are The Fixes What To Do If Mac Bluetooth Is Not Working? Reboot Your Mac

Remove All USB Devices

This step is in addition to step number 1 i.e. rebooting Mac. Here, disconnect all your USB devices – mouse, speaker, keyboard, etc one by one. Once you are done with detaching all the devices, reboot your Mac and now try forming a connection once again.

Reset PRAM on Mac

Sometimes an underlying issue can be the reason why your MacBook Bluetooth is not available. That is the time you can reset PRAM on your Mac. For that –

2. Press the Power button

3. Immediately press the combination of four keys at the same time- Option + Command + P + R

4. Hold these until you hear Mac’s startup sound the second time

5. Release the keys

Disable and Enable Bluetooth

1. Go to System Preferences

3. Turn your Bluetooth off

Get Rid of All Current Bluetooth Preferences

Getting rid of existing Bluetooth preferences can also help if Bluetooth is not connecting on Mac. First and foremost, get rid of all the apps and devices that use Bluetooth and then follow these steps to remove all current Bluetooth preferences.

1. Open Finder

2. Press Command + Shift + G

3. In the Go to the folder Window enter /Library/Preferences/

4. Locate the file’s apple.Bluetooth.plist and com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile. It could be that these files are corrupt

5. Delete these files

6. Restart your Mac

Reset The Bluetooth Module

Another way to fix “MacBook Bluetooth not available” is to reset your Bluetooth module. This will help tackle any underlying Bluetooth issues at a deeper level. To do that –

1. Hold Shift + Option

4. Select Remove all devices

6. Select Reset the Bluetooth module

7. Reboot Mac and again try and pair your Bluetooth devices again

In case none of these fixes worked for you, try eliminating system junk. Your Mac could be cluttered with the system-generated dump.

CleanMyMac X is one of the best ways to remove any system-generated trash or even optimize Mac. Additionally, it can easily help your Mac remove any malware, language logs, login items, and a lot more.

To use CleanMyMac X –

3. Review any items that you don’t need

Wrapping Up

That’s it! Try the above fixes and let us know if you were able to fix the “Mac Bluetooth not working” issue. Even after trying the above-mentioned steps, if you are still not able to work a solution out and if moreover, the issue is accompanied by several other issues, consider taking your Mac to a service center. Instagram Landscape And Portrait Mode Are Here! Third

Instagram just introduced one of its most significant changes in recent memory — landscape and portrait modes for photos and videos.

In addition to the traditional square photos, Instagram now natively allows the ability to post media in portrait and landscape orientations.

This means you can post your photos and videos as they were originally shot. No more cropping videos that you shot in widescreen, or selfies you took in portrait mode.

According to the company, nearly one in five photos or videos people post aren’t in the square format. With the help of third-party apps Instagram users have been able to accomplish posting media without cropping it. With today’s update, it sounds like those third-party apps are destined to become obsolete.

The company admits, “we know that it hasn’t been easy to share this type of content on Instagram”, but now that problem has been fixed.

Here’s how it works:

Choose a photo or video

Tap the brand new format icon on the bottom left to adjust the orientation.

Choose your filters, and so on.

Once shared, the full-sized versions of your media in landscape and portrait format will appear in a much more natural way than it would have before with a third-party app.

On your profile screen the photo grid will remain square — any media that’s not natively square will appear as a center-cropped square.

In addition, all filters can now be used for all types of media. There’s no longer filters just for photos and filters just for videos.

Those are two major changes in one day that are sure to change the landscape (pun intended) of Instagram for the foreseeable future.

Widescreen video opens up a lot of new opportunities. Even when using third-party apps in the past, rendering and uploading widescreen video was a terribly tiresome process. Now it sounds like it will be just like uploading any other video.

With this update you can check ‘landscape/portrait mode’ off the list of most wanted Instagram features. Next, it would likely please a lot of people if the app offered a native re-gram feature.

Ubuntu Software Center Not Working? Here Are The Fixes

The Ubuntu Software Center makes life easier for those who want to install their favorite software without the hassle of using the Terminal or building things from source. It allows users to also quickly search for software and packages and automatically takes care of the dependencies along the way. Though rare, errors can happen that cause the Software Center not to work. A little troubleshooting can help you fix the Ubuntu Software Center not working issues.

Issues After Clearing Cache or System

Various users have reported that after clearing the cache or using any system cleanup tools, they started having some form of a problem with Ubuntu Software Center not working.

Software Center Not Loading

Sometimes the Ubuntu Software Center fails to load. If you see a message such as “Unable to download from … ” it usually means that it cannot read the local cache, as it doesn’t exist.

To resolve this, you need to open the Terminal and enter:

sudo

apt update

&&

sudo

apt

-y

upgrade

If the above doesn’t work, you may need to reinstall Gnome-Software.

sudo

apt

autoremove gnome-software

&&

sudo

apt

install

gnome-software

You can also try the following:

sudo

apt update

&&

sudo

apt

dist-upgrade

-f

This should pull down the latest version of Ubuntu, which might fix the issue. If you can’t open Terminal for any reason, try these fixes.

Corrupted Cache

This is slightly trickier to deal with and different than the above. Essentially, something has gone wrong with the cached packages, and the Software Center cannot read them.

Go back to the Terminal and enter:

sudo

apt

clean

The cache will now be completely clear. Enter the command:

sudo

apt update

This will pull a clean package list on your machine and should allow you to install software via the search.

No Images or Software

As you search for software, there are occasions where there is nothing loading. The same problem can display when there are no images within the “Editors Picks” section.

To fix this, type the following command in the Terminal. It will kill the software running in the Software Center.

killall

gnome-software

Remove the gnome file software location “~/.local/share/gnome-software.” Do this by entering the following in the Terminal:

sudo

rm

-rf

~

/

.local

/

share

/

gnome-software

If this seems scary, or you are afraid it will ruin your installation, opt to avoid deletion by moving it to another location. The Software Center will work fine either way. Just launch it as you would normally from the applications menu or the launcher if you have added it as a favorite.

Issues After Upgrading

While upgrading to a new version of Ubuntu normally goes smoothly, sometimes you’ll experience glitches after the process is complete. For example, the Ubuntu Software Center may not load or work at all. In this case, you may need to install Gnome Software from scratch versus reinstalling.

As with most solutions, open the Terminal and enter the following:

sudo

apt

install

gnome-software

You’ll need to reboot to complete the process.

Crashing

This is a bit of an unusual problem, but sometimes the Software Center crashes when entering categories. Usually this can be resolved by running the update commands as shown above or reinstalling as before.

sudo

apt

install

--reinstall

software-center The Language Fix

One of the oddest fixes for the Ubuntu Software Center not working problem is simply changing the language. You can even reselect your current language. This fix usually only works after you’ve recently installed a new version of Ubuntu, used system cleanup tools, or updated Software Center. This refreshes your system just enough to let Software Center start working correctly again. Strange, yet it’s effective for many users.

Tip: While you can select a different language if you want, just choose your currently installed language. If that doesn’t make a difference, choose another language temporarily, reboot, and open Software Center again to see if it helps. You can change your language back to the original after this.

Select a language and press the green “Select” button.

You can also install a new language completely. Select “Manage installed languages” at the bottom of the “Region & Language page.”

Press “Install / Remove Languages.”

Select a language from the list and choose “Apply.”

You can also uncheck your language and choose “Apply” to uninstall it. Reboot, go back to this window, and reinstall your language.

Kill Snap Store

On some versions of Ubuntu, Gnome Software isn’t actually the Gnome Software app. Instead, it’s Snap Store. If killing “gnome-software” doesn’t work, you may need to kill “snap-store.”

Close the Ubuntu Software Center.

Open a Terminal window and enter the following.

killall

snap-store

Relaunch Ubuntu Software Center.

Use an Alternative to Gnome Software Center

While Software Center is often the go-to, it’s far from the only option to install software. There are different stores to use, or you can install .deb packages individually.

In fact, you’ll likely find yourself seeking out another way to install software when you eventually find an app that isn’t available in Software Center. Try these alternative methods:

If you’re tired of Ubuntu itself, try these Debian-based alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions How can I prevent Software Center issues?

Ideally, keep the Software Center up to date. It’s important to note that older versions of Ubuntu might not support the latest Software Center versions. If you update Software Center, then start having issues, you may need to revert to an older version or upgrade Ubuntu.

What if I’m using an older device?

Software Center isn’t easy on your device’s resources since it’s such a major program. For older devices that keep having issues, it may be better to switch to Synaptic. While it’s not as user-friendly, it does work more smoothly on older hardware.

To install it on your device, open the Terminal and enter sudo apt install synaptic.

Can I remove Software Center from Ubuntu?

Yes. As long as you’re able to install software using other options, you don’t need Software Center, especially if you’re tired of random issues with Gnome Software Center not working. Open the Terminal and use either sudo apt autoremove gnome-software or sudo apt purge gnome-software. You can also use sudo apt install software-center to install the older version of Software Center for some older versions of Ubuntu.

Youtube Not Working? Here Are Quick Fixes To Try

Have you ever tried watching YouTube videos only to find that the loading icon just keeps circling, or the video is entirely blank?

What are the reasons for YouTube not working? In this article we’ll explore over 15 things you can try when you find that YouTube just isn’t working right. At least one of these tips should fix your issue.

Table of Contents

Is YouTube Down?

If you can’t even get to the YouTube website, there could be a potential problem with the site itself.

This is always the first thing you should check. Because if there is a problem with YouTube, it’s likely impacting many thousands of users across the globe. The best two sites to check for this is Downdetector or Outage.Report.

On Downdetector, you’ll see a graph showing the number of users who’ve had YouTube problems in the last 24 hours. There’s also a I have a problem with Youtube button you can use to report your issue.

Is YouTube Having Technical Issues?

The next thing to check is, even though you can access YouTube, is the site having internal technical issues? This happens more often than people think.

Some issues that can represent internal technical issues:

Specific buttons not working.

Menus behaving strangely.

Video control buttons not working right.

White or black video when you press the play button.

The Youtube Help page is the place to go to search for the specific issue you’re seeing.

You may find that other users have had the same issues in the past, and you can learn from the solutions within the community.

You could also discover that the issue is an internal YouTube technical glitch, and all you need to do is wait.

Are YouTube Ads Causing The Problem?

Another common issue that can happen when you try to play YouTube videos is that the video won’t play. Or it’ll play after multiple attempts and then stop playing again.

To fix this issue with YouTube not working:

Open chúng tôi in your browser and make sure you’re signed into the same Google account you’re using on YouTube.

Select the Google profile icon at the upper right and select Manage your Google Account.

Select Data & personalization from the left menu.

Scroll down to Ad personalization and select Go to ad settings.

Make sure that the toggle for Ad personalization is ON is enabled.

Is It a Private Video?

If you’re trying to view a private video, you’ll need to make sure that you’ve been invited to view the video before you can play it.

Make sure the person who created the private video knows how to change the video privacy settings.

To be able to view private videos you’ve been invited to view:

You need to have your own YouTube account and be signed into it.

If you have multiple YouTube accounts, make sure you’re signed into the one the video was shared with.

You need a direct link to the private video once it’s been shared with you.

Update YouTube App On Mobile Devices

If YouTube videos aren’t working on your mobile phone, you may need to update the YouTube app. This is because some updates may break old versions of YouTube on mobile devices where the app hasn’t been updated yet.

Updating the app can resolve those issues.

To do this on Android:

Open the Google Play Store app.

Tap the menu icon and select My apps & games.

Tap Update to the right of the YouTube app.

To update the YouTube app on iOS devices:

Open the App Store app on your phone.

At the bottom of the screen, select Updates.

Next to the YouTube logo in the list, select Update to update the app.

Once the YouTube app is updated, restart your mobile device. Then reopen the app and try viewing the YouTube video again.

Make Sure The Browser Isn’t Causing Problems

If you’re using Chrome to view YouTube videos, there are a number of Chrome settings that could cause YouTube to stop working.

Try all of the following fixes on the Chrome browser to fix the issue.

Clear Cookies and Cache

Clearing all cookies and cache in Chrome often fixes numerous YouTube issues.

To do this:

Select the three dots in the upper right corner of the Chrome browser to open the menu.

Select More tools from the menu.

Select Clear browsing data.

In the Clear browsing data window, make sure Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files are both selected, and select Clear data.

Update Chrome

Sometimes, recent Chrome updates can lead to older versions of Chrome having issues playing YouTube videos. You can resolve this by updating your version of Chrome to the most recent version.

To do this:

Select the three dots in the upper right corner of the Chrome browser to open the menu.

Select Help and select About Google Chrome.

On the About Chrome page, Google will check that you have the latest version. If you don’t, the update will take place automatically.

Check Proxy Settings

Sometimes, malicious apps or browser extensions may update your proxy settings and cause issues with using YouTube.

To set your Chrome proxy settings back to default:

Type chrome://settings/system in the browser URL field.

Select Open your computer’s proxy settings.

In the proxy settings window, make sure Use a proxy server under Manual proxy setup is set to Off, and that Automatically detect settings under Automatic proxy setup is set to On.

If you’re using a browser on a company network that uses manual proxy settings, reach out to your IT department to find out what those are and get help setting them back to the correct settings.

Enable Javascript

YouTube needs Javascript enabled in your Chrome browser in order to work properly.

To do this:

Select the three dots in the upper right corner of the Chrome browser and select Settings.

Scroll down to the Privacy and Security section and select Site Settings.

Scroll down to JavaScript.

If the status isn’t currently “Allowed”, select it and enable the toggle to the right of Allowed.

Disable Ad Blocker and Use Different Browser

Ad blockers usually don’t cause any problems in YouTube, but depending on what ad blocker you are using and what settings you have enabled in your ad blocker, it’s worth trying to disable to make sure that’s not causing the problem.

In addition to ad blockers, other plugins like Disconnect, Privacy Badger, ScriptSafe, etc. can block certain elements on YouTube that may prevent the videos from playing.

Lastly, if you’re using a browser like Brave, it has some very strict default privacy features that could be causing issues with YouTube. Try a different browser and see if that fixes the issue. If it does, try disabling all add-ons and any browser privacy features.

Check Your Internet Connection

It seems obvious, but many people don’t realize that YouTube isn’t working because they’ve lost their internet connection.

If your internet connection is bad, you’ll need to troubleshoot the internet connection before you can test YouTube again.

A couple of quick fixes that can get your internet working properly again is to flush your DNS settings, and reset your network settings.

Update Graphics Driver

If you’re seeing a black, white, or green screen when trying to play YouTube videos, the issue could be your graphics driver.

A quick fix for this is making sure you have the latest driver for your graphics card.

Restart your computer once drivers are updated.

Disable Hardware Acceleration

For the best quality video while watching YouTube, enabling hardware acceleration is a good option. However, on older computers it can cause performance problems.

To see if this is the issue, try disabling hardware acceleration.

Type chrome://settings/system in the browser URL field.

Disable the toggle to the right of Use hardware acceleration when available.

Select Relaunch to relaunch Chrome.

Sync Time, Date, And Region

One odd behavior not many people think about is what happens when your time zone is incorrectly set on your computer. This can lead to YouTube videos not working properly, and may just show the loading sign constantly.

You can quickly check this setting to make sure it’s not causing the problem.

On a Mac:

Open System Preferences

Select Date & time

Under time Zone, select Set time zone automatically using current location

Restart your system for your time and timezone to get updated automatically by your system.

Uninstall Conflicting Apps

Sometimes, malicious apps you recently installed can cause issues with playing YouTube videos. Uninstalling those apps will often resolve the issue with YouTube not working.

You can check for apps you’ve recently installed and uninstall them.

Select the Start menu, type run, and select the Run app.

Type chúng tôi and press Enter.

Select the Installed On header to sort apps in order of the ones most recently installed.

Select any apps you’ve installed that might be causing an issue and select Uninstall at the top to uninstall that app.

Also have Chrome search for and clean up any harmful software on your system.

To do this:

Open Chrome, type chrome://settings/cleanup in the browser URL field, and press Enter.

In this window, select the Find button to have Chrome scan for harmful apps and remove them.

The scan only takes a few minutes, but it’s worth doing to make sure there isn’t any harmful software on your system that could be causing conflicts with playing YouTube videos.

Other Fixes When YouTube Is Not Working

If all else fails, the YouTube video you’re trying to view may be restricted in your region.

A good workaround for this is to try using a VPN service to access the YouTube video you want to watch. This “tricks” YouTube into thinking you’re connecting from a different country, which may allow you to view the video.

Another fix that has worked for different people is making sure you have the latest Windows updates installed on your system. It’s a good idea to enable automatic updates so this doesn’t cause a problem with viewing YouTube videos.
