Suggested January 2024 Build It: A Smart, Ambient Led

Ambient technology is the current rage for presenting information in a unobtrusive and, sometimes, sublime manner. Information suited for an ambient format ranges from complex number-laden data streams to simple one- or two-digit numbers. The idea here is that you can glean the same information by simply looking at the color of a cube, rather than consulting a sensor’s text output.

By pairing a sensor with this Arduino-based mood cube to input data, you can create a more ambient-like experience:

Ambient Mood Cube: Install an ultrasonic motion detector and have the cube change its color due to your personal proximity. Kinda like a colorful greeting for a close encounter.

Interactive Ambient Art Cube: Add an accelerometer and create a cube that changes its color based on X-Y-Z orientation. Play with it, toss it around; the color changes due to your movements.

Weather Cube: Connect a barometric pressure sensor to the Arduino and program specific color changes for different barometric pressure readings. For example, make high pressure green, low pressure red, rising pressure, blue, and falling pressure yellow.

Review: Sylvania Homekit Smart+ Full Color Led Bulb Works Without A Hub

The go-to HomeKit accessory that the majority of people jump to is lightbulbs. Everyone can use them, and they offer a ton of functionality. That is why products like the Philips Hue system took off. The Sylvania Smart+ LED bulb is a great alternative, because it requires no expensive networked hub, and instead talks directly with your devices.

Subscribe to our Youtube channel

Sylvania is just starting their HomeKit lineup, so at the moment, they only have a standard A19 bulb with an E26 base, which is a lot of letters and numbers to say it works in standard US bulb sockets (and E27 European sockets as well). You do have the option of a white-only or full color bulb, so there is some variety.

Features

The bulb is fairly bright, at 800 lumens. That is roughly what the Philips Hue line can output, depending on the bulb and particular hue of the bulb. Sylvania says there are 16 million color options, though we were unable to fully count all of those, I tend to take their word for it.

Sylvania does offer their own app for your iPhone or iPad, but it is pretty bare bones. It is essentially just there to perform an update to your bulb, but otherwise will leave the heavy lifting to the native Home app (or your favorite third-party option). I really prefer it this way because many third-party apps are terrible. I like how they relegated that to other apps instead of trying to confuse people of which to use.

The Smart+ bulb connects to your device over Bluetooth. This is contrary to others that communicate over Zigbee and require some sort of bridge to connect to your network. This is hugely beneficial because there is no additional hardware (or expenses) you need to incur to start using it. It also increases the response time because you don’t have to connect to the bridge first.

On the downside, that does mean you can’t control the bulb remotely, unless you have a recent iPad or Apple TV within range. Luckily, that is something many people have these day, so it isn’t much of a big deal. It can also be a downside if you planned to put some of these bulbs in remote parts of your home, and you have nothing in range of the Bluetooth.

Automation

As with any HomeKit accessory, you have the full power of HomeKit to automate your lights. All of this automation is easy to set up using Apple’s Home app. iOS 11 brings even more capabilities to your smart home.

Here are a few examples of things you can pull of with your new smart lights.

Turn the lights on when the first person arrives home

Turn off when the last person leaves

Turn on with the sunrise or your alarm in the morning

Turn on when the front door is unlocked, or the back door is open

Turn on and off using motion sensors when someone is in the room

Turn on and off while you are away so it appears someone is home

Tie to other lights in your room so they all go on and off together

The biggest downside, which is fairly irrelevant to HomeKit iOS users, is that the bulb doesn’t work with Google Home or Amazon’s Alexa. It is solely accessible via HomeKit and Siri on your iOS device.

Wrapping it up

Lets go ahead and sum up the Sylvania Smart+ bulb into a few pros and cons.

Pros

No hub necessary

Color and white options

HomeKit, Siri, and automation support

Bluetooth low energy connection

Remote control via Home hub

Affordable options

Cons

No Google Home or Alexa support

Body can get warm after long bouts of use

Needs to be within Bluetooth range of device to be used

Compared to Philips Hue, they offer similar brightness and have as many colors, yet require no hub and are roughly the same price. These are great bulbs if you are looking to add a few to your setup without purchasing a bridge or other extensive lighting system.

Sylvania is set to introduce light strips and power outlets as well to their smart home collection later this year, which should bring it even more in line with their competition. If you’d like to pick them up for yourself, you can find the color bulb for $45, and the white color for $26 over on Amazon.

Hohem Isteady V2 For Smartphone: A Smart Gimbal That Does It All!

When it comes to quality video content creation, the struggle is real! The right gear makes all the difference in easing and streamlining the process. One nifty little gadget that I recently got my hands on is the Hohem iSteady V2 AI gimbal for iPhones and other smartphones.

I tested it out thoroughly to see how it performs, and this review will give you all the details you need. Keep reading to know if and why you should go for this relatively affordable smartphone gimbal.

But first, what is a gimbal?

The most common type is 3-axis gimbals. These keep your camera stable while you move to capture sharp shots and smooth, fluid footage that looks professional. They’re a must-have for vloggers, video content creators, or even photographers.

Hohem iSteady V2 gimbal at a glance

Right from the outset, iSteady V2 comes across as a sleek and sophisticated piece of equipment. The well-crafted box won me over the moment I received it. Inside, everything was snugly arranged and got me excited to start experimenting!

Design and build

The Hohem iSteady V2 is made of sturdy non-slip plastic that’s easy to grip. It comes with a mini tripod that can be easily screwed on and off as necessary.

It boasts innovative hardware designs with a built-in AI tracking sensor. This means it can independently handle face and gesture tracking without any software assistance.

Further, it’s got a small ring light built around the AI sensor. This has three brightness settings and comes in handy for low-light shooting,

It’s incredibly light, which is remarkable for a device that packs in an internal battery and motors. The gimbal supports phones with a maximum width of 55-90mm, a thickness of 11mm, and a weight of 280 grams. With a phone attached, the gimbal weighs about 500 grams. It’s pretty comfortable to hold and carry around.

Further, the phone clasp is well-made and sturdy. You can easily insert and remove your phone.

The handle is ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in your hand.

The only drawback about the build quality is the mini-tripod, which feels a bit fragile. So, be mindful when using it.

Also, note that the Hohem iSteady V2 is not waterproof. So it’s unsuitable for shooting in the rain or underwater. Lastly, I feel that the design could have been more aesthetically pleasing. It seems pretty basic and lacks a wow factor when you first look at it. However, it more than makes up for this in functionality (explained later)!

Performance and stability

I tested the iSteady V2 with an iPhone 8 Plus, an iPhone X, and an iPhone 12 Pro Max. On the whole, it provides excellent stabilization for almost any smartphone.

However, note that the motor may appear in the frame if your phone’s camera is too close to the central area. This is because the phone always needs to be centered within the clasp for the gimbal to function correctly. Since iPhones have cameras near the top of the phone, I did not face any issues with the motor appearing in my footage.

One of the most spectacular features is that the iSteady V2 automatically switches to low-angle shooting when you turn it upside down. This kind of camera movement can give you some pretty spectacular shots to play around with for your creative video projects.

Further, experimenting with the different modes like inception and time-lapse result in endless creative possibilities!

Stability is perhaps the most vital factor to look for in a gimbal, and iSteady V2 does not disappoint. It offers smooth footage for most circumstances. I tried walking around, dancing, rolling in a chair, and making a full circle, and iSteady V2 followed along perfectly without any glitches.

Moreover, it did not tire my hands, and in fact, I was so enamored that I didn’t want to put it down!

Lastly, the battery comfortably lasts for 7-9 hours, making it convenient for long shoots. Moreover, when you’re not using it, it can double up as a power bank to charge your phone! That’s a nifty little extra feature.

AI visual tracking

AI tracking is the flagship feature of the Hohem iSteady V2 gimbal, so I was excited to try it out. The AI sensor is built into a small module on top of the phone clamp. It gives you face or object tracking power when using the camera in any social media platform or video app.

So, it’s perfect for shooting action scenes or video calls. The subject can move around, and the gimbal will automatically rotate to keep them in the frame.

To use the AI tracking, turn on the gimbal and push the button on top of the AI sensor. Wait a few seconds for the ring light to flash, and it’s set. When using the front camera, you can enable AI tracking by making the OK sign with your right hand. The small red light flashes green which indicates that the gimbal is now tracking you.

I am pretty impressed by the gesture recognition and intelligent tracking. I’ve not come across a system like it before, so it’s truly the USP of the iSteady V2. It’s incredibly responsive and works like a charm. It kept everyone at iGeeksBlog entertained for hours! I’m sure it’ll add convenience to your video recordings.

Other gestures that you can use are as follows:

Hold up your hand to stop tracking

Make a thumbs up with both hands to switch to landscape orientation

Two thumbs pointed to the right will switch your phone to portrait orientation.

Of course, you can also achieve all these functions with the physical buttons on the gimbal. Now that we are done with the basics, let’s understand how to use it!

How to set up and use the Hohem iSteady V2 gimbal

The gimbal comes with a handy manual that clearly explains how to set it up. Please do not attempt to set it up without first seeing this booklet, as you may end up damaging the motors. Here’s an overview of the gimbal setup process:

Make sure you secure your phone into the clasp before turning on the gimbal. Otherwise, the motor will repeatedly run through the startup motions that may damage the gimbal.

After mounting your phone, turn on the gimbal and open the Hohem Pro app to start using the device! It’s pretty straightforward, but it may prove somewhat complicated for those who have never used a gimbal before.

If the LED indicator lights do not appear when you turn on the gimbal, charge the gimbal. It took me about three hours to fully charge it.

On the whole, the setup process is pretty straightforward. But it might prove complicated for beginners. However, referring to the manual will help you out.

Also, note that the Hohem Pro app is needed to connect the gimbal to your phone. It also has a built-in camera functionality and many extra features. But you can also use the gimbal with the native camera app on your phone or other apps like Instagram.

The Hohem Pro app

The Hohem Pro app is incredibly functional and completes the iSteady V2 experience. It’s straightforward and intuitive to use.

For AI tracking, you can select an object or face. Once enabled, the gimbal will move to keep the face or object in the frame.

You can also adjust the motor speed to achieve better framing for fast-moving objects. But keep in mind that this can result in jerkier video and will also drain the battery faster.

Additionally, you can use the app for a range of functions as below:

Moment Mode

Auto-inception Mode

Motion Timelapse

Real-time Beauty Mode

Auto-Calibration

Online Firmware Upgrade

There’s also a selection of filters to play around with. Photos and videos are stored directly on your camera roll, so they’re easy to find.

Verdict: Is the Hohem iSTEADY V2 the ultimate vlogging partner?

Whether using your phone’s camera app or the Hohem Pro app, the iSteady V2’s tracking functions work equally well. This is a standout feature because other gimbal apps do not adapt as well to the native camera on your phone. Moreover, the iSteady V2 gives you the significant benefit of face-tracking motion-sensing within your phone’s camera.

Further, given the included tripod, gesture controls, and the option to use the gimbal without its app, this nifty device is an excellent all-in-one kit for vlogging or movie-making.

It’s easy to use and carry with you wherever you go. Moreover, it packs a punch given the affordable price point. When you buy the Hohem iSteady V2, you get the latest technology to enhance your video production. This puts it a notch above similar products, making it a worthy little gadget for videographers of all skill levels.

Pros

Enables stable, smooth video recording

Fairly straightforward to set up and mount a phone

Full-featured mobile app with impressive built-in effects

Works independently with the native phone camera

Built-in light

Doubles up as an emergency power bank

Affordable price

Cons

Kurio Smart Is A 2

Kurio Smart is a 2-in-1 Windows tablet designed for kids

Tablets and smartphones for kids aren’t exactly new and we’ve already seen quite a number of them trying to appeal to both parents and kids for patronage. Rare, however, if not non-existent, is a tablet for kids that touts a full Windows installation as well as a 2-in-1 detachable keyboard form factor, two things that are mostly presumed to be for adults only. But that is exactly what KD Interactive’s new Kurio Smart is offering kids these days. Plus, a new Kurio Xtreme 2 tablet is also launched for those who prefer Android’s flavor.

Kurio Smart is meant for ages 8 to 12, when kids start going to school and start looking for a real computer to use. That is why the tablet installs a full Windows 8.1, upgradeable to Windows 10, so that kids have access to entertainment, educational, and productivity apps in a single device. Plus, it comes with a detachable keyboard that latches on magnetically, transforming the tablet into a small laptop.

The device runs on a quad-core Intel BayTrail-T Z3735G with 1 GB of RAM. The display is a handy 8.9-inch 1280×800 screen. There’s 32 GB of storage on board with a microSD card slot for adding more. In short, it’s pretty much a low-tier Windows tablet. But not all such tablets are designed for the needs of kids. The Kurio Smart was specifically made to withstand rough handling. The tablet comes with Microsoft’s Family Smart software to give parents control and keep inappropriate content away. All these for only $199.99, available from Toys’R’Us, both in stores and online. The tablet comes in Blue and Pink color options.

When it comes to younger kids, however, Android still has the lion’s share of the market. With the new Kurio Xtreme 2, that market has gotten a bit crowded too. The successor to Kurio’s previous Xtreme bumps the Android version up to 5.0 Lollipop. Speaking of bumps, the new tablet also sports bumpers in matching colors to protect the device tumbles and spills. There is also a built-in kickstand that makes the device ideal for watching videos or playing the body motion games that come pre-installed.

The 7-inch tablet has a resolution of 1024×600 and is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT8127 with 1 GB of RAM. Storage capacity caps at 16 GB but a microSD card can add 32 GB more. A 2 megapixel rear camera and 0.3 megapixel front shooter might not be that much, but it at least keeps the kids entertained with some photos that they can edit and play around with. On top of Android, Kurio builds its parental control software and its own KidOz store to ensure the safety of children both online and offline. The Kurio Xtreme 2 carries a lower price tag of $129.99, also available from Toys’R’Us. Like the Smart, this one also has Blue and Pink choices.

Build And Publish A Successful Blog

Build and Publish a Successful Blog

For those new bloggers looking for some direction or help with a blog launch, or for seasoned bloggers who are looking to take their blogs an extra step, I’d like to recommend three sources of information which should help you along your journey. Whether your goal be to spread information, share your opinions, or earn enough revenue to become a full time blogger, you will more than likely find these sources quite useful.

1) Starting a Blog : Duncan Riley at the Blog Herald is putting together a multi-part series on the first steps of starting a blog. Personally, I had the comfort, time and foresight of starting Search Engine Journal at a time when there were not very many search blogs (or even search news sites) on the market, the search industry was on its post-bubble rise, and with an upperhand of already having somewhat of a reputation in the search community. Such a time of launch, when other forms of search media were conformed to forums and email newsletters, was a large part in my decision to start SEJ.

2) Performancing and Problogger : These are really two sources on professional blogging but I’m listing them as one to keep this list simple.

Performancing is a new pro-blog project brought to us by the same ‘people’ behind ThreadWatch. At Performancing, what we basically have is a community of blogging knowledge which is edited by Nick Wilson of TW and some of his search engine industry buddies (who all have their own pro-blogging projects going on); Philipp Lenssen of Google Blogoscoped, Andy Hagans of Text Link Ads and Biz Niche Media, TW regular Chris Garrett, and Peter Brady of Ads on Blogs.

One little known fact about Performancing is that they are looking for contributors to the blog. I contributed one piece this week, and I’d highly recommend that if you feel that you can lend a voice to the world of pro blogging, try submitting a story to Performancing (don’t be shy, they’re not a bunch of monsters or weirdos or anything).

Problogger is a blog on professional blogging run by problogger Darren Rowse. Rowse has been blogging fulltime for a good while now and has a lot of insight on monetizing blogs, affiliate programs, breaking writers block, and targeting niche markets. Besides Problogger, Darren is also a founding member of the b5media Blog Network, which is growing by the minute, and also the publisher of the Six Figure Blogger Course (Darren himself is a self confessed Seven Figure Blogger).

3) Jennifer Laylock at Search Engine Guide has started a new blog called The Lactivist and is tracking her ideas and the blogs progress in her multi-part series : Zero Dollars, a Little Talent and 30 Days. Jennifer has chosen her niche market: new mothers who are breast feeding, launched her free blog on Blogger’s Blogspot, and is going at it with publishing useful content and trying to monetize her blog via different affiliate programs such as Cafepress and ad networks like Chitika or AdSense.

In her latest update on her Lactivist project, Jennifer realized a new market with Cafepress: promoting other stores other than your own :

Reading the documented series of launching a blog and sifting through its referrals, earnings potential, and other niche markets for expansion really has me reminiscing back to the days of launching SEJ and Blog Search Engine. So much, in fact, that I’ve decided to work on some new blogging projects of my own. More to come on those in time.

Can Chatgpt Build A WordPress Website?

ChatGPT is a chatbot that is capable of generating websites and writing codes to fulfill various web development tasks efficiently. AI technology has bring-down the entire process of building a website into a few simple steps. This also raises the question of whether ChatGPT can build a WordPress website. Well, it can.

ChatGPT is qualified for creating WordPress websites, it can develop codes for websites, homepages, About us sections, and more in a matter of seconds.

In this article, We are going to mention the steps on how to develop a WordPress website using ChatGPT.

Can ChatGPT write code for a website?

Yes, ChatGPT is capable of writing codes for businesses, web development tasks, and creating websites within a few seconds.

How do I use ChatGPT in WordPress?

There are two ways through which you can operate ChatGPT in WordPress. The first method is to employ ChatGPT manually by simply signing in to your account and generating the content.

Another method to use ChatGPT in WordPress is by installing plugins in the WordPress interface. In this method, once the ChatGPT Plugin is installed you need to have an API key and enter it in the plugin settings.

Is there any ChatGPT extension for WordPress?

Yes, here is the link to the ChatGPT for WordPress extension that can be accessed for WordPress. By downloading this extension you can perform all the activities of ChatGPT in WordPress.

How to Build a WordPress Website With ChatGPT

To build a WordPress website with ChatGPT, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

Choose a Hosting Plan and Domain

There are two things you need to select before generating a WordPress website, a domain name and a hosting plan. Hosting plans are extremely important for the quality of the webpage.

Another vital feature to remember while choosing a hosting plan is its security features and customer service capabilities. Security features will ensure the safety of your website from cyberattacks and malware.

In addition, you need to select a suitable domain name for your website that helps define your website and its capabilities the best. You can even use a domain name checker to inspect whether your preferred name is available.

Build Your WordPress Site Pages with ChatGPT.

You can begin by asking ChatGPT to generate a basic website outline for a small-scale web development corporation comprising about six pages. You need to login to OpenAI, and enter your inputs in the textbox.

For example, you can write a prompt saying, “I have a web development company. Develop a website outline for my business consisting of six important pages that I should include” and ChatGPT will quickly create a website outline including six important pages.

Then you can move forward with expanding the recommendation and ideas to make the website more applicable. You can ask ChatGPT to generate creative titles, taglines, themes, and elements for your homepage. You can streamline the research process based on the options narrowed down by ChatGPT.

Furthermore, you should research before applying all the ideas to the web development to ensure any mistakes or errors.

Design Your Site with AI

Now, you need to generate code for your web pages. You can ask AI to generate HTML codes to develop some pages you need. Ensure you provide proper input with a clear description of the pages you want.

For example, If you want AI to create a homepage template, mention the design and characteristics that you want to be available on the homepage. Here’s how you can write it:

Prompt: Create a template for the homepage utilizing Bootstrap responsive design. It should include a menu for the homepage, blog, portfolio, and services and an about us section on the header.

Apart from web page templates, you can even ask ChatGPT to create code for various other elements such as a basic contact form. Here is how you can command ChatGPT to create a contact form:

Prompt: Create a basic web page containing a contact form. It should include these fields: First Name, Last Name, Email, and phone number.

This way you can effortlessly develop codes for your website. Although at times, you might find the chatbot facing troubles and might stop operating midway during the generation of long scripts.

In such times, you can try three things to fix this issue:

Continue the script – You can input “Continue the script” as a follow-up prompt asking the AI chatbot to continue the generation of codes from where it paused.

Regenerate Response – You can tap on the “Regenerate Response” button available above the textbox, asking ChatGPT to rewrite the prior response from start. Although there is a potential of getting the same error again.

New Chat – If the above options don’t work, you should try this option. Tap on the “New Chat” button you are beginning again from the start. This option doesn’t allow you to follow up questions as you start again.

Generate Site Content with ChatGPT

Now, it’s time for you to generate site content using ChatGPT. Since ChatGPT contains language processing capabilities, it masters content generation. You can ask ChatGPT to create any content and it will create it within a few seconds.

In addition, you can even ask ChatGPT for creative ideas, business plans, ad campaigns, and more. For a website, you need first to generate content for the “About Us” page, as it’s the first page that catches the user’s eye.

You must include all crucial points in this section, such as your business, your ideology, motive, and more in the prompt so the chatbot gets a clear idea and understands the context.

If your website targets a particular demographic, then you can ask ChatGPT to create content on those characteristics, expertise, and more.

You can include blogs, articles, and posts by asking ChatGPT to add specific keywords and phrases to make the content SEO-friendly and generate traffic on your site. You can even ask ChatGPT to generate scripts for videos and podcasts.

Although, it’s recommended to run through a proof check by a human on the generated content to ensure there are no grammar, spelling, or factual errors in the content, as ChatGPT is an AI chatbot and isn’t always capable of writing perfect content.

Problems and Limitations of Using ChatGPT to Build a Website

ChatGPT contains various features and capabilities that can be extremely helpful for building a website. However, just like benefits, ChatGPT also has limitations and problems, which are as follows:

Accuracy concern is the biggest limitation for ChatGPT as this AI chatbot can provide inaccurate answers to inputs as it can’t check the information.

ChatGPT’s data is limited to 2023; even though OpenAI adds data from 2023 into the model, it might deliver outdated or incorrect information for questions related to recent topics.

This makes it essential for a user to conduct a fact-check by a human to ensure the content generated by ChatGPT is accurate. Not conducting a proof check by a human might lead to significant factual errors, which can spread inaccurate information, causing a bad brand reputation.

Similarly, users should also conduct an inspection of the code generated by ChatGPT to avoid any trouble. You can use various code testing services to check the authenticity, such as Replit.

How do I add ChatGPT to my website?

You can add ChatGPT to your website by using an API and integrating ChatGPT with other websites. You must visit OpenAI’s site, generate an account and develop a ChatGPT API Key to generate API calls. You need to generate a few codes to send and receive a few API calls.

Does WordPress have a chatbot?

WordPress doesn’t have a chatbot of its own, but users can easily add a chatbot to WordPress by simply following these steps:

Go to the dashboard in WordPress

Tap on Plugins

Now, install the chatbot on WordPress.

Once the installation is over, tap “Activate,” and the chatbot will be added to WordPress.
