3D Reference in Excel allows users to choose the same cell from different and multiple worksheets. To use reference in Excel, we can choose the same cell or range of cells from different sheets by selecting the worksheet’s name. For example, we have 3 worksheets with different number values, and the name of the worksheets are First Second, and Third. Now, if we want to sum the values of this worksheet without selecting the cell from there, we can use their names like FIRST: THIRD with the cell with want to add. Let us assume we have a list of prices for a group of products in Sheet 1, which has been renamed “Price List”, as shown below.
Now, we also have the number of products sold or the Sales Volume defined in another tab – Sheet 2, which has been renamed to Sales Volume.
Now we wish to calculate the total sales for each product in Sheet 3, renamed Total Sales.
The next step is to go to Cell B2 and type the formula = after this, we need to change the reference to sheet 1, where the price list is defined. Once the cell reference has been set, we will need to select the price for the first product; in this case, it is Product 1.
As we can see, in the function bar, we have the cell reference pointing to the Price List sheet, which is the first sheet. On closer examination, it refers to the Price List sheet and cell B2, the Sales of Product 1.
Now we need to put an asterisk (*) in the formula. Asterisk is the symbol for multiplication. We need to multiply Sales by the number of products sold to calculate the total sales for a product.
We need to change the cell reference to the second sheet – Sales Volume. Once we have changed the cell reference, we must select Quantity for Product 1.
Now we need to drag the formula to the rest of the rows in the table, and we will get the results for all the other products.
So basically, in the above example, we successfully gave references from two different sheets (Price List and Sales Volume) and pulled the data to calculate the total sales in a third sheet (Total Sales). This concept is called 3D Cell Reference.Example #2
Now suppose we have a student’s data. We have his half-yearly and quarterly test scores for five subjects. Our objective is to calculate the total marks in a third sheet. So, we have the quarterly test scores for a student in five subjects, as shown below.
We also have the Quarter 2 test scores, as shown below.
We also have the Half Yearly test scores, as shown below.
Now we wish to calculate the total test scores in another worksheet using 3D Referencing in Excel. To do that, we will apply the formula as follows:
First, we shall write “=” for Marks in the Total Scores tab for the first subject, i.e., Physics.
Next, we shall change the cell reference to Quarter 1 and then select the marks for Physics from that tab.
Next, we shall add a “+” sign in the formula to add the next item to the Quarter 1 score. To do this, we shall change the cell reference using the 3D reference to the Quarter 2 tab and select the Quarter 2 marks for physics.
Next, we shall again add the “+” sign to the formula to add the next item, i.e., the Half Yearly score. To do that, we shall again change the cell reference by using the 3D reference to the Half Yearly tab and select the half-yearly score for Physics.
Now that we have the summation of all the scores for this student in Physics, we shall press enter key to get the total score.
Now, we shall drag this formula to the rest of the rows in the table to replicate the summation across all the subjects.Example #3
So far, we have seen a 3D reference for performing calculations. But we aren’t limited to just that. We can use the 3D reference to make charts and tables as well. In this example, we shall demonstrate how to create a simple chart using this concept.
Suppose we have the sales data for a company.
We shall use this data to create a simple chart in another worksheet. So, we shall create a new tab, rename it to “Chart”, and go to the Insert tab in the ribbon on the top. Here, we shall select the Insert Column or Bar chart.
Next, we shall select a simple 2-D Clustered Column chart.
We shall get a dialog box to select the chart data source.
Here we shall select the source data from the Sales Data tab. We shall select the range of cells where we have defined the Sales for each product.
Thus, we have successfully created the chart by using the 3D reference.Things to Remember
The data must be in the same format or pattern in all the tabs.
Even if the referenced worksheet or the cells in the referenced cell range are altered, moved, or deleted, Excel will continue to refer to the same reference. In case of alterations, moving, or deletion, it will result in the cell reference evaluating to NULL if appropriate values are not found.

NVIDIA has outed Lenovo’s latest 3D capable display, the L2363d, running at Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution and capable not only of playing back 3D but recording it thanks to dual webcams. The Lenovo L2363d supports 3D photos and 3D web-conferencing, as long as you have NVIDIA’s 3D Vision specs.
There’s also the Lenovo IdeaCentre K330 PC, a 3D-capable desktop using NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX460 GPU. Lenovo is, unsurprisingly, hoping you buy them both together. No word on full specifications as yet, since NVIDIA is only gloating about the 3D Vision tech, but we’re guessing it’s a similar – albeit updated – version to the K330 Lenovo outed back in December.

It might feel like consumer 3D printers are still an early-adopter technology, but the truth is very different. XYZprinting has really made a name for itself over the last few years. Their printers are consistently innovative and there are many good choices in the product range. For example, their da Vinci AIO products also include a 3D laser scanner, which turns the printer into a 3D photocopier of sorts.
While FDM printers have become quite mature, most are still limited to printing in a single color. Dual- or multi-extruder models can be used to easily print in multiple colors. One for each extrusion head. However, if you want a proper full-color 3D object there haven’t been any consumer products up to the task.
Enter the da Vinci Color. This printer feels like a real step up for the technology. It combines FDM 3D printing with CMY ink printing technology. The end result is a system that can color the outer layer of your print however you like. So you no longer need to hand-paint your prints! The da Vinci Color feels like the beginnings of the sci-fi replicators we imagined 3D printers could be.
It’s not a one-trick pony either. There are many high-tech features under the hood. WiFi is a given on high-end models these days, but it also has a neat magnetic print bed and sports a sophisticated auto-calibration system.
The 7.9 x 7.9 x 5.9 inch print volume may be a little tight for some, but the vast majority of users will be perfectly happy with that much room. The only real gripe is that the 100 micron maximum resolution is quite a bit grainier than the 20 micron resolution on the da Vinci Pro. Flashforge already had a good thing going with the original Creator model. This new Creator Pro model takes what was great about the original and dials up the quality. Better (and more expensive) materials were chosen for the Pro, making it sturdier and more attractive.
You get aviation aluminum guaranteed not to warp under heat and a metal frame, in place of wood. The new metal construction and guide-rod assembly are all aimed at precision and reliability. To top it all off, the built chamber is insulated, so that ABS (it also supports PLA) cools consistently.
This is also a dual-extruder printer, which opens up all sorts of possibilities. Yes, you can use filaments of different colors for two-color prints, but of much more interest is the ability to have different grades of material for supports and final product.
This is a no-frills printer that knocks out high-quality prints a clear step above most other machines in this price bracket. Speaking of which, the Creator Pro initially launched with a price well north of a grand and has seen consistent price cuts, now going for almost half of the original tag.
It was already a strong competitor at full price, but at the time of writing you’d be hard-pressed to find something this good for so little.LulzBot Taz 6
It’s not overpriced by any measure however. This is a SERIOUS printer that’s reliable enough to run constantly in a factory setting. Indeed, Lulzbot actually does this, with 150 machines printing parts that go into the printers that customers ultimately buy.
While there’s no WiFi connectivity, you don’t need to hook the Taz 6 up to a computer. It supports SD card printing, which means you only have to walk over with the model files to get going.
Maintenance is also kept to a minimum, with self-leveling and self-cleaning features, making this a very convenient machine to own.
Of all the things that impress about the Taz 6, the print head is at the top of the list. The printer has been designed to be modular, which means you can upgrade or modify your existing printer to support dual material printing and a long list of printing materials, including wood and metal composites, nylon filaments and printing materials that haven’t been invented yet. Dremel is one of the top power tool makers in the world, so it makes a lot of sense for them to try their hand at making a desktop 3D printer. The Dremel Digilab certainly looks the part, with a pleasing metallic finish and enclosed build space.
There is absolutely no pre-assembly, making this one of the most consumer-friendly 3D printers on the market. Since this printer does not have a heated build platform, you are limited to PLA material. That may not be a bad thing, since Dremel is pitching the Digilab as a high-quality desktop printer.
PLA tends to be used for models that need better details and overall finish, not ones that will actually be used for practical parts. This focus on PLA means the Digilab is tuned to that material, making it much more likely that your prints will come out the way they are supposed to.
Dremel claims that the 3D20 is the most reliable 3D printer on the market, backing it up with their testing regime. Of course, we have no way of verifying reliability claims, but Dremel has a reputation for making reliable tools. This is why the brand is such a favorite among builders and makers of all stripes.
Other quality of life features include a full-color touch screen and the ability to print from an SD card. That means the Digilab can operate independently from a computer, with a very friendly UI.
The only potential drawback is the 9”x5.9”x5.5” build volume. If you want to print models that are larger than this, you’ll have to look elsewhere. Otherwise, this is probably the best “sweet spot” desktop printer you can buy today.The Time is Now
Standard material deposition 3D printers are now ready for primetime. There’s no reason to hesitate on pulling the trigger when it comes to desktop 3D printers any more. While there is still a lot of innovation on the horizon, the next generation of 3D printing technology isn’t going to make it to your desk any time soon.
This means that waiting doesn’t make a lot of sense. If you buy a modern 3D printer now, it should stay relevant for years to come, until they find a way to bring true multi-material printing to the home market. If you’ve always wanted a 3D printer, 2023 is as good a time as any to finally buy one. Enjoy!
Dell updates the XPS 17 with Intel’s spiffy new Sandy Bridge CPU and stereoscopic 3D capability, but the latter is better for 3D Blu-ray than for gaming.
It seems like only yesterday that a Dell XPS 17 last passed through the PCWorld Labs, yet here we have another one. That always seems to happen when a new CPU generation launches. Toss a capable GPU and 3D stereoscopic capability into the new model, and you have a feature-rich desktop replacement.
The display provides the 120Hz refresh rate and IR emitter necessary for stereoscopic 3D. We used it with an aftermarket set of Nvidia’s 3DVision glasses, and everything works quite well. Driving the display is an Nvidia GeForce GT 555M mobile GPU. Dell has beefed up the resolution of the display to true 1080p.
Most of the other features are comparable to those of the earlier XPS 17, including dual hard drives, four USB ports (the two on the rear are USB 3.0 capable), 802.11n, a Blu-ray drive, and both HDMI and mini-DisplayPort digital video output connectors.
Our test system’s performance in standard desktop apps was stellar, producing one of the highest scores we’ve seen from a laptop on WorldBench 6, an impressive mark of 151. The new Intel CPU, coupled with a staggering 16GB of main memory, were no doubt major factors. You’ll pay for this power, however: The XPS 17 3D starts at $1450, and the configuration we reviewed will run you $2389 (prices as of February 2, 2011).
The Nvidia GT 555M is newer than the 445M that Dell used in the last-generation XPS 17 L701X. Since the screen is now true 1080p, however, the 555M needs to drive 44 percent more pixels than the older laptop’s 1600 by 900 display had. That means lower frame rates in games, so you may want to dial down the resolution a bit if you’re playing current-generation titles. The performance of the GT 555M seems only slightly better, as in 3D Mark 2011 this laptop garnered a score of 1307 versus the mark of 1286 from the older XPS 17.
At 1080p, the XPS 17 3D ran Far Cry 2 at 49.93 frames per second, while in the racing title F1 2010 it managed just 18 fps in DirectX11 mode. In Just Cause 2, a graphics-intensive DX10 title, it eked out 18 fps as well. On the other hand, in Metro 2033 it reached 25 fps, only a little slower than the older XPS 17, which was running at a lower resolution. We disabled antialiasing in all game tests.
Playing 3D Blu-ray movies, though, works very well aside from the substantial reduction in brightness and contrast. The effect is particularly startling in the IMAX 3D Blu-ray title Deep Sea 3D. We also viewed standard Blu-ray high-def movies, and those looked great. In all cases, you really want to sit in the sweet spot, as the color shift and brightness drop-off are both very noticeable as viewing angles change.
The keyboard seems to be a slight step backward. The keys offer a gentle sculpting, making it easy to settle fingertips into them, but the surface seems slippery–it’s too easy for fingers to slide to another key and mistype while touch typing. The arrow keys and PageDn/Ins cluster keys are way too small, as well.
Weighing 9 pounds, 11 ounces with the power brick, and measuring nearly 2 inches thick in places, this is no HP Envy 17. Still, if you’re looking for a capable, premium desktop replacement that can do everything, the Dell XPS 17 3D fits the bill.

Step 1: Now, open a new module and write the subcategory of VBA Boolean as shown below.
