Best Free Spyware And Malware Removal Software
Your computer is probably the most valuable asset in your home, even though it’s not the most expensive. Gaining access to your computer can make a lot of money for creators of spyware, malware and ransomware. For example, a new ransomware called CryptoWall has been going around lately that encrypts everything on your hard drive and won’t give you the decryption key until you pay them money.
A lot of systems become infected when someone opens an email attachment that appears to be safe, but in reality is malware. To protect yourself from those type of situations, you really need a real-time monitoring program in order to stop the malware from installing itself immediately.

I’m going to mention a couple of great free anti-malware programs, but most of them do not include real-time monitoring in the free versions. Whether you should purchase the premium or pro versions depends on what kind of computer user you are. If you haven’t gotten a virus or malware in many years, you probably know how to avoid these types of scams, but if you’re uncertain about whether something is legitimate or not, it’s probably a good idea to have more protection.
Malwarebytes Anti-MalwareOne of the best tools for repairing malware infections is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. The free version includes anti-malware, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit protection. The big downside to the free version is that it does not include real-time protection or automated scans, so malware would not be blocked from installing itself onto your system and would only be removed once you ran a manual scan.
Overall, it’s a great product and can really help you remove any pre-existing malware on your system. However, the real value of the program is in the real-time monitoring and protection available only in the premium version ($25).
Spybot Search & DestroySpybot has been around for a very long time and has a very good track record of finding and removing spyware and malware. It’s trustworthy and regularly updated.
When installing Spybot, you’ll be asked whether you want to be protected automatically or whether you want more control and feedback from the program, so pick the option that suits you best.
Once complete, you can go back to the main window and perform a system or file scan. Again, there is no live protection in the free version. Also, the free version only has malware and rootkit protection, not virus protection. They have a Home version for $14 and a Professional version for $26.
It does have a feature called Immunization, which basically is website blocking of known malware sites. It’s not enabled by default, so you have to manually enable it.
Ad-AwareAd-Aware has also been around for a very long time and is one of the best antivirus programs out there. When installing the program, make sure to uncheck the two boxes for SecureSearch as that is not really worth it. Google does just fine protecting your searches.
The best thing about Ad-Aware is that it supports real-time protection in the free version! Just about all the other programs require a paid version for real-time monitoring. They do have several paid versions ranging from $24 to $50, but you get a lot of protection without having to pay anything.
In the paid versions, you can also get email protection, which is really useful to avoid those nefarious attachments that can infect your system.
SUPERAntiSpywareSUPERAntiSpyware is another spyware/malware removal program that has a long history. A lot of these older programs have gotten better and better over the years and that’s why you keep hearing the same names over and over again.
Again, the free version does not include real-time protection, scheduled scans or automatic updates. The paid version is $20, but it’s a yearly fee. I’m willing to pay companies like Kaspersky a yearly subscription fee because they do an excellent job, but I really don’t think SUPERAntiSpyware is worth $20 every year. If you plan to purchase an anti-spyware program, it’s best to pick one of the above-mentioned ones instead.
AdwCleanerAdwCleaner is probably the only program you may not have already heard about. Basically, this program focuses on toolbars, browser hijackers, adware, etc.
The program catches a lot of malware that other programs sometimes miss, so that’s why I have mentioned it here. In my opinion after using malware programs for the last 15 years, these are the best options in terms of freeware. I would highly recommend, though, purchasing a full version of one of the programs for real-time protection. Enjoy!

Usually, this category is called “Best graphics card,” casting a spotlight on the best discrete desktop video card released over the past 12 months. And sure, several new graphics cards were released in 2023, from 1080p-focused offerings like the Radeon RX 6600 and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 to heavy-hitting 4K behemoths like the $1,200 GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. But the chip shortage’s effects were felt most acutely in the graphics space, exacerbated by incredible demand from crypto-currency miners who use their graphics cards to mint virtual coins for real-world profits. Understandably—though disappointingly—every new graphics card launched this year hit store shelves with staggering price tags, though they also sold out instantly only to appear on second-hand retailers like Ebay and Craiglist at up to twice the price of those already-inflated MSRPs. Gross.
So, this year we’re switching gears. The best gaming option for most people with modest budgets isn’t a graphics card at all, but the GPU cores integrated into AMD’s game-ready Ryzen 5000G APUs, which remain in stock in both DIY form and inside numerous prebuilt systems. “You can build a Ryzen 5 5700G machine today and get outstanding CPU performance along with OK gaming performance,” we said in our review. Yes, you’ll need to dial down some graphics options for the best performance, but you’ll be able to play esports games and even triple-A titles at a decent clip at 720p or 1080p resolution. At $259 for the Ryzen 5 5600G and $369 for the Ryzen 7 5700G, they aren’t exactly cheap, especially since you’ll also need a motherboard to plop them into. But remember that you’re getting both a CPU and a doable GPU stand-in for the price. And, hey, they’re actually in stock. —Brad Chacos

Best laptop CPUsIt’s been a banner year for laptop buyers shopping for powerful CPUs thanks to intense—and we mean intense—competition between AMD and Intel. We first saw the year kick off with AMD’s Ryzen 5000 H-class gaming processors arriving to smash a folding chair on Intel’s elderly 10th-gen H-class CPUs. AMD then followed up with its Ryzen 5000 U-class or low-power consumption chips, which battled Intel’s 11th-gen “Tiger Lake U chips” to a stand still.
Intel’s 11th-gen Core chips hold the high-ground on lightly threaded tasks and performance while on battery, with Ryzen 5000 U beating Intel’s processors in multi-threaded tasks.
And just when it looked easy to declare AMD’s Ryzen 5000 H-class the winner, Intel hit back with 11th-gen “Tiger Lake H” CPUs that just slightly edge the Ryzen 5000 H chips.

So what’s the winner? There are really two classes of laptops today—really thin and light, and really fast.
For the really thin and light category, we’d be torn between Ryzen and Core i7, but the 11th-gen Core came out last year. That leaves AMD’s impressive Ryzen 5000 chips as the best CPU for thin and light laptops in 2023. It’s an easy one to argue since you’re getting an unheard-of eight cores of performance in laptops weighing less than 3 lbs.
In the need-for-speed category, it’s a very close race, but we give the nod to Intel’s 11th-gen Tiger Lake H for two reasons. First, it has the slight edge in performance, giving you a full x16 lanes of PCIe Gen 4, plus support for PCIe Gen 4 SSDs. It’s simply a richer, fuller feature set than AMD’s Ryzen H-class chips. The other reason is the elephant in the room: You don’t buy a laptop CPU without the rest of laptop around it, and Intel’s Tiger Lake H is simply paired with more laptops with faster hardware than their AMD counterparts. —Gordon Mah Ung

9 Best Tv Remote Apps For Android And Ios
We all know that “there’s an app for that” when it comes to modern smartphones, but have you considered using your smartphone as a remote control for your TV or home entertainment system?
There are quite a few mobile apps out there that promise to replace your remote control, but these are the ones we think are the best TV remote apps available today.

A Note On Phones With IR Remote BlastersThere is one large divide in the world of TV remote apps and that’s whether it makes use of infrared signals or not. Just about all televisions use infrared sensors to communicate with their remote controls. Which means if you want to use an app to control that television, you need a model that has the ability to send IR signals.
This is becoming a fairly rare feature on modern phones. One which you won’t even find on flagship handsets from phone makers such as Samsung. If your smart TV can also accept remote commands via WiFi or Bluetooth, then it may work with a phone that doesn’t have an IR blaster. You will however have to check this on a case-by-case basis.
A much more practical solution is to use a device like an Android TV or Apple TV, which can be controlled via an app. Using HDCP, that device can also control your television set. Switching it on and off, changing its volume and more.
If you really want to use your phone as a universal remote and have devices that will only work with infrared, you can buy an IR blaster and attach it to compatible phones. It’s not an elegant solution at all, especially not for your main phone. However, if you have an old smartphone no one uses, this is actually a great solution, since you can just leave the IR blaster permanently attached.
Another alternative is to use a WiFi to IR converter. This is a device that speaks to a smart app, receives its commands over the network and then generates IR signals. This is a good solution if you want multiple people to use their phones to control devices or if you want to use your main phone, sans IR blaster, to control all the IR gear in your home entertainment system.
Official Smart TV AppsMany brands of smart TV offer in-house solutions to use your phone as a remote control. Whether this is possible (or works well) is entirely dependent on the brand of phone you have. Since there are hundreds of brands, we can’t list them all, but companies like Sony, Samsung and LG all have remote control apps for their various TVs and sometimes even other devices you might use alongside them, such as sound bars and AV receivers.
It’s always worth checking for an official TV remote app first. At the very least you’ll be able to compare the official solution to any third party apps. As a point of reference for which is better. It’s also much less likely that a future app update will suddenly break compatibility with your devices.
Official Apps For IR Blaster PhonesThe Huawei P30 Pro includes an IR Blaster as a feature.
If you have a phone with a built-in IR blaster, there is almost certainly an official app from your phone maker for remote control functionality. You should check if the app is preloaded on your phone or whether it’s available from an app store as a free download. Remember that some phone makers also have their own app stores in addition to the Play Store (or instead of it) so also check there for value-added software.
App-Specific Remote ControlsAnother wrinkle in the smart TV remote app story is the existence of smartphone apps that can control smart TV apps. The best example is YouTube.
If your smart TV has an app that’s also available on your phone, it’s worth checking if the developers offer any sort of remote control interaction between the two.
Official Set-Top Box AppsAs you can tell, we’re not talking about any one specific application here. Most smart TV devices from major brands have their own in-house remote control application. They vary in quality, but all allow you to control the smart TV device and are guaranteed to work perfectly with it, since the app is written by the same people who make the hardware. A prime example is the Apple TV remote app.
There are also third-party applications for many of these devices, in case you don’t like the vanilla official apps. However, all bets are off if you’re using a third-party solution.
Keep in mind that, should the smart device and TV set support it, these apps will also allow you to control your television. Replacing the need for the dedicated remote. At least to some extent.
AnyMote Universal (Android & iOS)Anymote is one of the best universal remote control apps we’ve used. It supports both IR and WiFi-based device control. This is good since the Galaxy Note 10+ we tried this app on doesn’t have an IR remote blaster. However, the app immediately detected the Samsung Smart TV on the same WiFi network. It can also act as a remote for a long list of smart devices and apps, including acting as an iTunes remote and a VLC media player remote.
